Chapter 2

I woke up to a loud noise, or many loud noises, like a breaking glass kind of noise. My eyes shot open and went directly to the hatch. It was still closed and maybe still locked. I jumped out of my bed and tip toed over to it, pulling on the little metal handle. Yup locked. I walked over to my window, starting to panic a little.

Everything outside looked the same except for the moving truck across the street was gone, but the car was still there. I took two deep breathes and closed my eyes trying to stay calm. Inhale exhale, inhale exhale. I opened the window to get some fresh air in and closed my eyes again trying to block out the continuation of the breaking glass.

My dad must have been mad and was breaking all the kitchen glasses and china. I thought maybe now it was ok for the hatch to be lock so he couldn't get me, but it was locked from the outside. So he could get in and I couldn't get out. I looked around my room trying to find something heavy to put on top so he couldn't get thought."Ummmm" I said looking around. "Oh" I mumbled running over to the pile of books hidden in the corner of my room. I took all the books one by one and set them on top of the hatch. They were big books maybe a thousand pages and the only reason they were up here was because my dad doesn't like reading and they were my Moms.

I went back over to my window and set my elbows on the ledge looking out at the sky and clouds. My imagination went wild, seeing shapes, animals and objects in the puffy white clouds. There's a soft white bunny crinkling its nose as it munched on a carrot. A muscly man on a motorcycle that looked bad with his mohawk hair cut and dark shades. An elephant on one foot and spinning a big ball on his trunk. I smiled getting lost in my imagination.

But my smile turned when my imagination was interrupted by a loud banging. It was from under the hatch, my dad was trying to get in. He screamed "GRACE LET ME IN NOW!" I cringed at the anger in his voice. Then a few more bangs and the hatch started to crackle. But I don't think he noticed because he stopped talking and banging and I heard his footsteps go back down the latter. Moments later they came back.

"Grace please open up I wont hurt you" he said in a calm voice. I didn't know whether if I should believe him and let him in or not. I decided to not, I was going to stand my ground and not let him in. "Please Grace I have a surprise for you" he said with a little pep in his voice. What, what is my surprise? What could he give me?

My curiosity got the best of me and I started to push the books off the hatch. But I heard him chuckle, a evil chuckle. "Stupid girl" I heard him murmur to himself, even though it was loud enough for me to hear. I gasped and throw all the books back on top. "Hey? What are you doing?? Open up now!!" He demanded with anger building in his voice.

I jumped back as he started to bang on the hatch again. Then I screamed several times knowing he would break the hatch and beat me for not listening. I had to get out of there, now. I knew there was only one other way out, the window. I quickly climbed out and onto the roof, closing the window behind me. I climbed to the top of the roof next to the chimney. Then I heard a gun shot and a banging. It was my dad, he must of got his gun and was referring to that as my surprise. He was going to shot me, dead, gone. The other bang was the sound of the hatch breaking open and him coming out.

I started to cry and my eyes filled with tears blurring my vision. I hugged the side of the chimney not knowing what to do or how I was going to get out of this.

We had unpacked all our stuff last night because we didn't want to deal with it today. I was so exhausted that I fell asleep in the living room on the floor along with each of the other lads. I woke up with a ache in my back, but sat up and saw everyone spread out. Zayn was comfy on the couch, lucky. Niall was face down on the coffee with a blanket and pillow on top. Harry was on the ground next to the couch and Liam lay on the smaller couch with his feet set on the armrest. I laughed and got up cracking my back then walking up stairs to my room to get dressed. I changed into a pair of jeans, t shirt and jean jacket with black VANS. I went back down stairs to see the guys still sleeping.
