Chapter 5: Caterpillar Room

It's been a long month for Ebony. She learned the hard way what this was. Everyone here was so broken. She knew they weren't broken beyond repair but, it felt like she couldn't do anything. She couldn't stand to see everyone suffer here. She tried to be more social with everyone here.

She started with the person she met first, Liu. Liu wasn't social at all. He was calm but didn't know the first thing about talking to people. They started off rocky with simple words. The words slowly formed into sentences and actual conversation.

Liu wasn't so bad. He was just misunderstood by others. Just because he had a violent past, didn't mean he was terrible. The mental scars from his other were the problem. Ebony knew she couldn't do as much as she wanted but she tried. She tried to make him smile and laugh. The first two weeks didn't work. After a month and a week, she got Liu to loosen up to her.

She loved Liu's company. Liu was a great computer scientist and dreamed of getting a job as a coder or hacker. Liu never admitted to anyone that he actually felt happy too. Liu saw himself differently. He wasn't the sad kid who first was brought here. He's ready to take on the world and the world's bullshit.

The second and latest person was Ray. Ray was complicated. They weren't like the others. Ray is meticulous and well planned. Ebony found it hard to crack open Ray. Ray was as tough as a rock and emotionless as a painting. The only times Ray showed any emotion was lack of empathy for anyone. Ray was too chill and relaxed.

It took a few weeks but she found that she had nice conversations with Ray. They would talk about horror and stuff that happened in the outside world. Ray seemed like an evil mastermind but in reality he was just someone looking for approval.

Ray came from a rich family but not a loving one. Ray's father was a businessman who manipulated and controlled everyone and things around him. Ray developed violent tendencies when they saw their father beat up a maid and fire employees for no reason. Ray wanted their father to love them. Ray tried everything but it didn't work. Nothing good showed positive results.

This led Ray to hurt animals for fun. That hobby slowly led Ray to hurting others. Ray hurt the drunken people first. Everyone was just a test dummy to Ray. Nothing mattered. Human life was supposed to be the one controlling everything. Why isn't that even though we are at the top of the food chain we don't have control over everything.

Ray's behavior led to bullying at school. Ray found torturing the drunkens wasn't fun anymore. Ray felt no remorse for anything. Ray decided to beat up the bullies. Ray's father didn't care. Maybe this time, he was finally going to notice Ray.
