Chapter 5: The Flower Room Part 2

Dear Diary,

It's me, Izzy. It's been some time since I was emitted here. It's hard to remember what happened so long ago. Memories of my past life before here are just a haze of flashes.

It's like my life was stopped. I don't feel like the same person anymore. It's good that I'm not depressed but it's like missing a part of you. I miss my friends and living my normal life. I didn't mind the bullying or the harassment from the world. Everything was organized and simple that way. Death was meaningless and I wanted to be meaningless.

It all changed when I met him, Daniel. Unlike the others he was different. He was treated with the same kindness but still felt like an outcast like me. I talked to him about being different and not feeling like I fit in.

These people had problems that were serious. I wasn't important. I don't feel the importance of changing. I've tried to change. Sadly I wasn't as successful as Daniel.

Daniel is ready to go. He's perfect. Daniel has some flaws but he's normal. He had alters but he knew how to deal with them. Unlike me, I can't deal with my sickness. He's just perfect. Why can't I be like him?

It's weird and I know this isn't the right setting but... I think I like Daniel. It's so weird. It's like we were made for each other. I like him but he probably doesn't want a relationship yet. I don't think he would like a depressed girl.

Izzy and Daniel overheard the conversation the other tables were having. Apparently, the hospital would be closing soon. Both of them were nervous. What was going to happen if they didn't make it out of here before time ran out?

"Izzy... What do you think is going to happen?" asked Daniel. Izzy looked into the window. Neither of them had an answer. It was all happening so fast. What was Izzy supposed to say?

"I don't know but I hope it doesn't." reassured Izzy. She tried to stay positive but it was hard for her. Her mind was so clouded by sadness that there was barely any room for happiness or hope.

"Yeah, we should stay positive." Daniel replied. His hand slowly touched Izzy's. Daniel blushed and Lizzy looked away to not have Daniel notice her red face.

"S-sorry," said Daniel apologetically. Daniel felt embarrassed to look at her. Over the months they've known each other, Daniel slowly got feelings for Izzy. In his eyes, Izzy was the perfect girl. She was broken but still fixable. He wanted to help her. He wanted to protect her. But most of all, be with her.

"I-i'm okay." stuttered Izzy. No matter how many times she tried, Izzy was never able to look at Daniel eye to eye. She wanted to confess but she was too scared to try. She didn't want to ruin their friendship.

"Daniel and Izzy, Doctor Zander would like to see you two." called a nurse. Daniel and Izzy looked at each other.

What was this about? Why call the both of us? Were we going to get off EP? Izzy thought. She didn't waste time thinking about it. She took Daniel by the hand and led him to the door. The pair and the nurse went to the room Doctor Zander was in.

"They're here, Evan." said the nurse. The doctor closed the files he was looking at. He looked at us. He smiled at us. It was a pure smile unlike the others in this building.

"Hello take a seat, you two," The doctor pointed at the two seats in front of him. Izzy and Daniel looked at each other and took a seat in front of Doctor Zander.

"I would like to congratulate you two for a successful recovery. I feel that you two are allowed to leave the building. You two have been here for long enough. I feel only some particle program would be necessary." Doctor Zander went on to explain.

Daniel was excited. He was so happy about the news. He was ready to leave and see his dad again. He looked over at Izzy. She didn't look too happy about the news. He knew that after today, he would lose her. That soured his mood. He didn't want to lose Izzy but it was time to move on.

"Oh, and, your parents/guardians are here," Doctor Zander said, "Come in." Daniel's dad and Izzy's grandparents came in.

"My my, it's nice to see you again dude." Daniel's dad said to Doctor Zander as he went over to hug him. Daniel was confused. Did his dad know the doctor?

"Funny seeing you here Zack. How's life been since highschool?" Doctor Zander asked.

"Good, I mean, look at you. She must be proud of you. You know..." Zack said. The two men's faces darkened. It must have been something traumatic thought Daniel.

"Yeah... I've told her about what I've been doing. I hope she's up there looking down and smiling at us." Doctor Zander replied.

"Come on Evan. It's in the past now. It's time to move on." Zack said as he comforted Evan.

"Ready to go home, son?" Zack asked his son. Daniel shook his head.

"Not yet dad, give me a few minutes with Izzy," Daniel said to his father. He watched Izzy talk to her grandparents. She seemed to get embarrassed at something her grandma said. Daniel noticed that Izzy was fumbling with a piece of paper in her hand.

"D-daniel, h-here you g-go." Izzy stuttered as she handed Daniel the note.

The note read,

Dear Daniel,

I've never had the confidence to say this but I like you. I know you might not like me but can we please stay in touch even after we get out of this place?

Here's my number, ### - ### - ####.

"I like you too, Izzy." Daniel said. He and Izzy were both blushing. Their parents were happy to see their kid/grandchild happy.

"I'm going to miss you." said Daniel.

"Same here." said Izzy.

They both walked out hand in hand with their parents. Their parents held the release papers and partial program papers. No matter what, they wouldn't be apart.

Life worked in a weird way but brought them together. Izzy and Daniel soon went on to hang out and have fun with each other outside of the hospital.
