"Its just that you never hug me anymore"

Catherine stared at her best friend, Chase. Chase had spent all day with her today, which wouldn't normally seem out of the ordinary, but Chase had been acting weird all day. Whether it was constantly holding her hand or asking her repeatedly if she was having fun, Cath's friend had seemed excessively skittish today. It was most likely Chase was stressed about her girlfriend, Ellie, Catherine thought. Or maybe she had just had a rough start to her day. Either way, that thought didn't make Cath any less curious about what Chase was trying to tell her through this behavior.

"I-uh-what's up?" Cath asked, shyly. Chase smiled at her, shaking her head.

"Is everything okay?" Cath tried again.

"Yeah. Everything's great," Chase reassured her, before looking back at the sunset. The two were currently sat at a bench in the park, one perfect for watching the sun set.

"No seriously, what's up?" Cath asked again, now feeling a bit worried. After spending all day with Chase, she knew for certain that the golden haired girl was worried about something. When it came to the two of them, Cath knew that she wasn't a very good friend at times. After all, Chase had been spending so much time with her, reassuring her in desperate times and giving her company when she asked for it. After all that, Cath knew it was about time she repaid the favor.

"Don't mind me," Chase reassured her, making an involuntary sigh.

"Yeah?" Cath replied hesitantly. After receiving no response, she started leaning back against the bench, wondering if her desperate attempts would really work. Yes, Chase was often open about herself and almost never hesitated to tell Catherine anything and everything, but when it came to what she was thinking, Cath was left completely clueless. She decided to try one more time.

"Chase, are you okay?" Cath looked at her, her brown eyes showing genuine interest in her friends wellbeing, although the blue eyed one was focused at the view ahead. After a few long moments, Chase dropped her head.

"No," she replied quietly. The blonde-haired girl frowned. Cath smiled sadly at her as she put her arm around her shoulders, letting her head rest in in the crook of her neck.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Cath asked softly, patting her friends back. Chase remained quiet.

"I don't know" She said after a few moments, picking at her fingers. Cath gently swatted her hands away from each other, resting her own hand in place of the one she had just pushed away.

"Ok" Catherine replied calmly, watching the sun get swallowed by the hills ahead.

"Did I do something wrong?" Chase asked suddenly, making Cath raise her eyebrows. She pondered for a moment, before responding.

"What do you mean?"

"I just, I dunno, I feel like you've been.... distant... recently. Its stupid, I know but you never-" She paused, before continuing in a soft voice. "you never hug me anymore," she finished, removing her head from Cath's shoulder and placing it in her hands, elbows on her knees.

Cath took a small breath in. With a sympathetic smile, she started,

"Chase, if this is about that I-" Chase suddenly stood up from the bench and started to grab her things.

"Nevermind," She said exasperatedly. "just, ignore that I said anything. I'll see you tomorrow" Chase said before stalking off.

Cath tried to call out to her friend, but to no avail. Chase was gone by the time that Cath had been able to get her things as well. She stared at the place her companion once sat.

"I'm sorry, Chase" She said quietly before heading towards her home. She was curious what the next day would bring, but most of all, she was hopeful that her newly planned efforts would make Chase feel as loved as she once knew she was.

YOOOO first one down heck yeah. I was gonna make this longer but it's late and I'm tired so I'm not going to. I might make a part two though, so ig stick around for that. Also this wasn't intended to be Chath content, I just wanted to write about a more vulnerable spot in their friendship, because idk it feels nice to vent to your friends. That being said though I'm sure you chath shippers are starving for food so eat it up if you so desire.
