Over the next month up until Samhain, Hadrian spent more time with his parents getting to know one another and learning all they could about each other. James learned Hadrian wasn't a big fan of quidditch and when prompted as to why Hadrian simply stated. "I never learned how to fly a broom. Sure we had flying class in first year but I asked professor Mcgonagall to swap me out for healing instead after the first lesson." James suddenly felt the guilt rise up in his throat. He remembered teaching Charles how to fly a broom, spending hours with his son in the air laughing and chasing eachother. He was immensely proud when he heard Charles made seeker for Gryffindor in his first year. But guilt was now eating him up from inside. He never did that with Hadrian. He never bothered to spend time with his eldest teaching him all the things a father is supposed to. Just another reminder what shitty parents they actually were.. James stood up and summoned to brooms and told Hadrian to follow him.
"Dad where on earth are we going?" Hadrian asked as he ran to keep up with his father.
"I'm taking you to the quidditch pitch. I'm going to teach you how to fly. Something I should've done a long time ago.." He stopped abruptly as Hadrian walked into him and turned around. "Uhm I mean.. if that's something you want to do.. sorry I probably shouldn't have just assumed." He mentally facepalmed.
Hadrian let out a light giggle. "Yes dad, I think it would be nice to learn to fly." James smiled and ruffled Hadrian's hair while the younger male tried to swat his hand away and pouted. They talked about all manner of things on their way down to the pitch. James learned that Hadrian was an O student straight across the board. He loved cooking, preffered to stay in the shadows as he didn't like attention and usually made sure he was the one on patrol when Charles and his friends decided to sneak out at night and made sure to make just enough noise that they would hear a perfect coming and head back to their dorms.James inwardly beamed at the knowledge that despite everything that happened Hadrian still watched out for his brother even if he didn't know he existed. Wow his brother didn't even know he existed throughout his 4 years at Hogwarts. Hadrian saw the sad look in his father's eyes and he could guess what the man was thinking.. grabbing his father's hand Hadrian tugged so his dad would look at him.. "No no, none of that depressy stuff.. you're supposed to teach me how to fly. Isn't that supposed to be fun?" James smiled at him. He's right. No need for being sad they're supposed to be having fun.
James placed the brooms down infront of them on the pitch. They stood up and each stepped next to a broom. James explained how to summon a broom and on his first try Hadrian summoned it to his hand. He felt extremely giddy as he saw the proud smile James sent him. For the next 2 hours James taught him the basics of flying and they had a short little race from one end of the pitch to the next. Both laughing and having fun.
They started doing loops and Hadrian turned out to be a natural. After a while they started to descend but Hadrian leaned a little to far forward and he shot down towards the ground at lightning fast speed. James' heart nearly stopped as he saw Hadrian plummet to the ground. He wasn't going to be able to catch up to him but he tried anyway. About a foot from the ground Hadrian pulled up as hard as he could and went into a barrel roll leveling out with the field and hopped of his broom breathing hard. As soon as James landed Hadrian was in his arms and They could both breath normally again. After he made sure Hadrian was safe, he Suddenly smiled an ear splitting grin. Hadrian had somehow just pulled of a perfect Wronski feint. After the shock left their systems they both started laughing until they were in stitches.
After calming down they made their way back into the castle and James rushed off to find Lily to tell her all about their day while Hadrian went into the great hall for lunch. Sitting down Hadrian pulled his hair loose from it's bun and shook it out before grabbing some bread and buttering it to dip it in his soup. He had just taken a bite when Viktor and Nicolae sat down infront of him. They greeted eachother and the two Bulgarians started on their lunch as well as they went into a light conversation.
