Hayley's eyes were wide open, despite the late hours of the night. She couldn't sleep.
She got up and walked to the bathroom, but paused outside of Splendorman's room. She could hear him crying.
She opened the door, and saw him sat on his window seat, face buried in his drawn knees and crying.
She walked to him and hugged him tightly.
"What's wrong...?" She asked and he lifted his head, his face was splattered with blood and his hands were covered in blood too.
"It won't come off... Why won't it come off...." He said quietly.
Her eyes softened.
"I didn't do it! He made me do it! He hurt those kids.... I'm supposed to be a good person..." He said, his voice barely more than a whisper.
"You are a good person. You're one of the kindest, most caring person that I have ever had the pleasure to meet. You did nothing wrong. You protected those who needed protection. The blood won't wash off because it's a reminder of how far you'll go to save someone." She cupped his face in her hand gently, wiping his tears with her thumb.
"Thank you... Hayley..."
She half smiled.
"You should get some rest... it's late." She said softly, her eyes searching for something inside of his.
He nodded and wandered towards his bed and swiftly falls asleep.Hayley left his room and saw Candypop stood outside of hers.
"Is there a problem, blueberry?" She asked, making him jump.
"No... Just wondering where you were." Candypop said quietly.
Hayley slowly approached him and looked up into his magenta eyes.
"You okay?" She asked, taking his hand in hers, gently.
He nodded and she wrapped her arms around him, hugging him warmly. He returned the hug, relaxing as Hayley ran her fingers through his satin-like hair. He smiled and buried his face in the crook of her neck. And they remained like that for a while, Candypop just holding Hayley, while she ran her long, delicate fingers through his messy, blue hair.
"You should rest, Candy..." Hayley said softly.
"Will you stay with me? I don't want to be alone with them." He asked, not removing his face from the crook of her neck.
"Of course. If it helps." She said, her voice was still soft and gentle as she rubbed small circles on his back.
He guided her to his room and sat on his bed, trying to get comfy, and then patted the space beside him. Hayley laid next to him, stroking his head gently. He slowly fell asleep, pulling Hayley close to him. She too soon fell asleep, to the gentle sound of his beating heart.
