c. 6; another day' and if they're watching i might as well put on a show.
"YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TODAY!" THE LETTER READ, THE INK WRITTEN SPRAWLED MESSILY ACROSS THE PARCHMENT. Cassiopeia had received a letter from her dearest friend Kalon that day, all of the words being written in a rushed fashion as though the brown-haired girl couldn't wait to send the owl.
"What's that say?" Narcissa asked, leaning over to her sister as the two packed for the new school year, "is it another letter from Joy-"
Cassiopeia cut off her sister with a series of hushing noises, raising her hands across her throat in very obvious motions, "Are you dumb or just stupid, Sissy?" she whispered harshly, "and no... It's not from... Jonah."
Narcissa couldn't look more unimpressed with the black-haired girl as she simply shrugged, turning back to continue her tasks, "Well, if it's not from Jonah then who is it from, dear sister?"
"It's from Kalon... and for your information, I and Jonah are not dating, much to your belief!"
"Well I didn't say anything like that, now did I?" Narcissa looked to her sister teasingly, smiling softly as her face lit up at the words, "don't put words into my mouth, sweet Cass."
A grunt left Cassiopeia's mouth as she disregarded her sister's previous words, angrily throwing another shirt into her trunk. Truth be told, she and Joy weren't dating... much to Cassiopeia's annoyance. For now, they were simply friends... that met up in broom closets between classes. That's it!
"When I asked you to help me pack, I didn't think you were going to harass me," Cassiopeia grumbled, ignoring the laugh that sounded from beside her, "you graduated already, you fucking hag. You have no rights to laugh. Aren't you with Malfoy now as well? Aren't they related to us? You're fucking disgusting-" she was cut off by her sister's loud laugh.
"Oh Merlin, Cass," Narcissa cackled loudly, gripping onto the trunk as tears leaked from her eyes, "you got so offended, I-I didn't expect for that, oh my!"
"Stop laughing at me!" she whined, stomping her feet childishly at Narcissa's words, "I'm not offended! If anything, you're offended, you're the mean one-"
"What is going on in here?"
"Mum!" Cassiopeia turned to the door, pouting as her mother walked into the room, "Narcissa is being mean to me!"
"Well, I'm sure you deserved it, dear..." Druella sighed, walking over to place a hand on each of her daughter's shoulders, "and please quiet down. You're being very loud and un-ladylike."
Of course, there it was. Whenever Cassiopeia thought her mother was even being the slightest bit tolerable, she had to go and something so unbelievably idiotic that it ruined the whole moment they had been having.
"Yes, mother," the girl huffed under her breath, throwing one last shirt into her trunk before slamming the top shut, turning to face the woman behind her, "and before you start your lecture, I remember your rules. No Gryffindor's, no Hufflepuff's, no failing."
"I told you that last year dear, and it didn't seem to do you very well, now did it?"
Sending a glare to Narcissa at her stifled giggle, Cassiopeia nodded at her mother's words, agreeing (albeit hesitantly) with the previous statement, "That is true, mother. Thank you."
A solemn nod was all she had received in response, the older woman looking coldly towards the two children in front of her before making her way out of the room. Druella never did show much love to her family, rather none at all. It was something they had grown to understand, of course, the love that their mother had only been revealed in moments of their success. This love was fickle, as was everything else that resided inside of the Black family, but it was love nonetheless.
The sound of creaking floors was all that was left in Druella's wake, the two sisters standing side-by-side in eerie silence. Not many words had to be exchanged after she had left, the similar thought being prominent in both of their heads...
"Merlin, what a dreary old woman."
