•what a dress•

IT WAS a snowy night finally in Japan where you lived and your mother was currently driving you insane; trying to force you to wear a nice pretty gown. You refused more than you have ever refused on something in your life.

she got more furious the more you refused~

"it's your birthday honey! i want you to look good while everyone is down stairs waiting for you!" you still shook your head.

"mom. I look fine the way I look! i hate when you do this! what's wrong with what i'm currently wearing??" your mother looked at you, eyes trailing down to your shoes that you had gotten from your father.

"change those shoes. i don't like them." you looked at your mom as you noticed the shoes reminded her of your dad. "they.. they look-" "i'm aware mom. i'll take them off."

you change out of your shoes and put on a pair of shoes you had gotten for you 16th birthday,

(you turning 17 now).

your mother set the box down onto your bed and left the room. you couldn't help but feel a sudden sting inside your heart. you felt bad.

you threw yourself back onto your bed as you stared onto the ceiling. admiring the galaxy light you had gotten yourself. you felt bad that you were so harsh on your mom. but without your dad, it's hard trying to stay happy for her.

days got more inflexible and hard. you looked outside your window and watch the snow fall. you stood up and headed towards your window~ opening it and stuck your hand out.

you focus on the snow, trying to get a snowflake onto your hand. and once you did, you smiled as you brought it to your bed.

you tried to examine it more closely, but struggled. you didn't have the best eyesight.

you put on your glasses, thinking that it's gonna help you. you then threw the piece of snow away, it landing somewhere on your wooden floor. you took the box that your mother had left on your bed and decided to unravel it.

you had saw a pretty dress, with a note on top saying 'from dad!'

you were shocked~ you didn't know that such a pretty dress was kept, all safe and sound for you from your father.

you took out the dress to get a better look at it! it was a nice, flowy light pink dress; not too big, not to puffy nor too tight.

you had put on the dress and walked up to your mirror and took a look at yourself.

you couldn't help but smile at the pretty girl you saw in the mirror.

you took the note and noticed some type of hand writing written on the back.

'to my beloved daughter! i'm so sorry
y/n that i am not able to see you at your 17th birthday. and i'm sorry i almost missed your 16th. i wanted you to wear this dress for your 17th instead of your 16th only because this is the first birthday~day you've had, without your father. and i am deeply sorry,'

~you couldn't help but tear up a bit. one falling down onto your beautiful dress.

'no matter what, please stay strong for your mother and i. i know me not being there is hard. but i know that you will make it! Happy 17th birthday (l/n f/n)!'

your dad has written. your face was full of tears as you read the last sentence,

'i love you princess, my love for you will never end. A love that'll last forever!' ~

and with that, you had fallen to the ground. sobbing as so much emotion filled up inside of you. the feeling of guilt, the feeling of anger; sadness, and a little bit of happiness.

you were a mess.

you wanted to be happy for your mother. yet you feel like you had failed her as well.

just like your father.
