hassana groaned as she heard a shatter echo through the dorm. she wasn't feeling well and to be awakened by something dropping onto the floor was annoying to her. two weeks had passed since her weekend at caleb's and between assignments, tests and the tension between her friends, she hadn't been able to spend time with her boyfriend and now she had this flu to deal with. to say she was annoyed was an understatement. she sighed and slowly got up from her bed, shrugging on her blanket, with her body aching before heading into the living room where nyah was giving halima the stink eye as halima was picking up some broken pieces of glass. "what happened?" hassana winced as she heard her hoarse throat. she cleared it a bit but she could feel it burning after the action. "it's nothing. halima dropped the glass." halima looked at nyah and rolled her eyes. "nyah trying to pin the blame on me as usual. like are you not tired sis?" whatever was happening between the two, had obviously been building up for a while. hassana should be surprised but she wasn't.the relationship between the three girls had become strained since the night of the party, when nyah had left the girls to basically fend for themselves despite knowing they didn't know anyone else besides her. both girls were lucky that caleb and josh were there as well as the girl that halima had met, naomi. some days were better but other days, like this one, the tension was unbearable. hassana sighed and sniffled, tightening her hold on her blanket. she just wanted to sleep and halima and nyah were making it difficult for her. "can you guys please keep it down? i'm not feeling good and this isn't helping." a faint dizzy spell hit her and she staggered a bit before catching her balance. she opened her eyes - she was unaware she had closed them - and looked at the two girls, only finding halima looking at her concerned and nyah was nowhere to be seen. "where did nyah go?" halima shrugged and walked over to hassana, gently guiding her to her room. "i don't know. you should get some rest, sis. i'll make you some chicken soup that my mama used to make for me when i was sick." hassana nodded and got into her bed, shuffling inside the covers, eyes closed and slowly drifting to sleep, vaguely aware that halima was saying something but her senses were too gone to register what.
hassana flinched when she felt an arm around her waist and made to move away. "baby, relax. it's me." caleb's voice soothed her and she relaxed, moving closer to him and opening her eyes slightly. the room was dark, with the curtains drawn and she figured it was nighttime already. her head pounded, so much so, that she could feel it behind her eyelids. she groaned and caleb's arm tightened around her. "what's wrong?" her body ached, worse than before and her eyesight was starting to blur. she felt the slow-creeping feeling of nausea and she squeezed her eyes shut, afraid that if she opened them, she might trigger the urge to vomit. "i'm not feeling good, caleb." he sighed and forced me to turn around, making me face him. the action was gentle but she could still feel the nausea creeping up. caleb adjusted himself so he was lying on his back with my head on his chest. he started rubbing circles on my back which eased the nausea and she could feel sleep starting to take over again.
the next time hassana woke up, it was still dark out but most likely late at night. she could feel the rise and fall of caleb's chest and she sat up, going still as she felt dizzy for a second before it passed. she breathed in and out and repeated the action several more times. she slowly got out of her bed, making sure not to disturb caleb and putting on her slides. "where you going?" caleb's husky voice called out, sleep laced within it. "i'm hungry." she assumed he nodded and went to make her way out the room but stopped as he stood up. "caleb, where are you going? go back to sleep." he shook his head and wrapped an arm around her waist, leading her out the room. "i'm good baby, plus i wanna help you make food. lima said she made the soup for you, i'll heat it up." he kissed her on the forehead as he guided her to the kitchen and she smiled, her heart melting at her boyfriend's kind gesture. he sat her down at the counter and went about heating up the soup. when he was done, he sat the bowl of soup in front of her along with garlic bread that made her mouth water. she needed to thank halima in the morning for the food, she really was grateful. "thank you, baby." he nodded and smiled at her, the kitchen light bouncing off his skin nicely.
in the light, she was able to make out the black nike shorts that he was wearing, paired with a plain white tee and socks along with his slides. his chain rested on his chest and she bit her lip, wondering how she had such a handsome boyfriend. she ate her soup and bread, the light meal returning her lost appetite. she finished the meal and caleb took her bowl away and washed it before coming over to her and grabbing her gently off the chair. she smiled up at him, pouting her lips out for a kiss which he gladly gave to her. "i love you and thank you for taking care of me." he rubbed her back gently and kissed her on the forehead. "i love you too, mamas." they stayed wrapped in each other for a few minutes, basking in the others' presence before migrating back to hassana's room and sleeping the rest of the night away.
