Steam rises from the mug of scalding hot cocoa that sits on the window ledge; it mists up the glass - creating a swirling pattern. Outside stars fill an endless sky - the vast expanse envelopes me with a sense of comfort and security. Somehow I feel less alone encased by beautiful shining stars, some people believe we are made up entirely of stardust and I think that is the most beautiful concept.
Behind me I can hear the rustle of Tony rifling through the stack of DVDs, desperately searching for a Christmas classic; he goes on and on about Christmas films all year round and now finally he has a chance to watch one without me ridiculing him about it not being the right season. His red jumper is baggy and matches the mug my cocoa is in; it depicts a line of flying reindeer's. The detail in the stitching is superb and you would never have known his mother had sewn it unless he told you.
Beyond him the fire gently crackles and emanates a glow of red, orangey, yellow hues. Everything about this trip is beyond perfect. Here there are no phone calls and missed deadlines. It is just Tony and I relaxing and finally living, sharing each moment together.
Retreating to this log cabin is an activity I usually do alone, when I need to get away from everything. i never intended to share such a pleasure with anyone else, but Tony is the perfect companion. Something tells me this little trip is going to become a festive tradition, maybe one day our child can come and run free here. Without a care in the world. It strikes me that I may be getting ahead of myself so I take another sip of cocoa and make my way over to the sofa. Tony is now sat waiting for me with a blanket in one hand and the film paused. He kisses my forehead as I curl up next to him and rest my head on his lap.
