The bitterly cold October wind swooshed past, the sun was long gone and the darkness encompassed. The little boy struggling to keep warm in his flimsy shirt, barely covering his little body, walked to the bench in hopes of finding warmth. Shivering uncontrollably, he sat behind it and rubbed his hands to generate some heat. While the other kids were dressed up as superheroes and princesses, he curled on the ground praying for a miracle, somebody who might help him but no one did.

He was lost, his father would kill him he came home empty-handed and this time nobody would save him. He pulled his pitch-black shoulder-length hair over his ears to block out the cold wind but it could only do so much. His eyes filled with tears of pain and longing for love, which blurred his vision. He did not understand it, why was he being treated like this? had he done something wrong?

He missed his mother.

Her lovely smile,

her comforting hugs,

her voice but she was gone.

Just like his hopes.

The pitter-patter of little feet caught his attention, he put his head between his knees and tried to be quiet but failed miserably. All of a sudden someone tapped his shoulder.

"Hello mister, what are you doing there?" A soft voice asked. Deciding against replying the boy turned his head away from the voice.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a ball of curly red hair moving toward him. He moved farther away hoping she takes a hint and leaves him alone.

"Why are you sitting alone? Do you also not have any friends?" It asked.

"Don't worry, I'll be your friend." After a pregnant pause, it said.

"I am Alexia and you?" Sensing he wasn't going to reply she said.

"You don't talk much do you?"  She was about to speak again but noticed him shivering as he did not have proper clothes. Without hesitation, she took off her cape and placed it on the boy, and said.

"There, now you won't feel cold, and don't worry I have enough on so I won't feel cold. Also, you look like you need it more than me ."  He raised his head and his eyes filled with tears of gratitude.

"T-thank you." He replied hiccupping and hugging her. A little shocked, Alexia hugged him back with a smile.

"You're welcome, so, what is your name ?"

"Damien."

"Wanna have candy?" She asked sweetly as he shyly nodded yes and buried himself in her cape to warm himself.

"W-what are you dressed as?" He asked as she handed him a bar of Hershey's.

" Merida from Brave." She replied, her cheeks and nose turning red from the cold, which didn't go unnoticed by Damien. He took the cape and covered both of them from the cold outside.

"Very fitting." He replied with a sweet smile.
