I brushed back a strand of hair that had fallen out of my ponytail, tucking it behind my ear and then using my free hand to place my bio book into my locker. I sighed and turned on my heel after closing my locker, leaning gently on the thin metal door.

I blinked extra long, feeling the lack of sleep come over me, and when I opened my eyes my best friend, Evee, was standing in front of me.

"Jesus- fucking Christ, Evee. You always do that." I sighed, my hand placed awkwardly over my chest.

"Do what? You're the one who gets all jumpy all the time. You really do need to sleep more." Evee went on and on, but I was already distracted.

By the time she realized I wasn't even following the conversation, she had gone through like eight topics, all of which I had next to no interest in. Our conversations usually went this way- Evee scares the ever living shit out of me, then decides to fill me in on sixteen different versions of a singular day of drama at our school.

After filtering out her bullshit for so long, and I mean a LONG time, you kinda learn how to cherry pick what is important and what isn't. Today, she was rambling about some kid named Cole. I mean- not "some" kid. The most popular one in school.

Cole, the biggest prick that I think ANYONE has interacted with, apparently dumped some random girl for the fifth time this week. Evee, being a self proclaimed "empath" was complaining about his mistreatment of girls, again.

"I don't get it." I muttered, way too loud than intended.

"Get what?" Evee stopped in her tracks and turned towards me with a confused look.

"I feel like, if everyone knows that Cole is a dick, then why do they continue to let him into their lives? It can't be that hard to avoid someone who you know'll fuck you over. You can't be mad at a mistake you chose to make." I tucked my hair behind my ear and continued walking, holding my light bag over my shoulder.

"Famous last words." Evee chuckled, picking up pace and walking ahead of me.

Shaking off the thought, I reached into the pocket of my shawl, pulling out my tangled corded headphones.

"Shit." I fumbled with the cord while walking, and before I knew it, I was sprawled out on the floor with a raging pain in my ass.

"Uh, you good?" I heard a deep voice rumble from above me.

"Do I look good?" I replied sarcastically without a second thought, before looking up and widening my eyes and scrambling upwards.

"Yeah." Cole replied, smirking at me as he walked past, "Watch where you're going next time, Lumine."

I blinked, once, twice, and then speed walked through the main hallway, out of the school.
