"So, he just randomly started talking to you? Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Evee whined, but she didn't seem to be too upset.
"Remember the day that I was talking about him being a dick?" Evee grunted implying she remembered, "Well, after you left I accidentally bumped into him in the hall. That's how it started."
"Oh, wow. And you lied to me? You said that you brought your own car to drive you." Evee sighed.
"Technically, I didn't. I did bring my own car, and I did mean to drive it myself. I just didn't mention the part about him."
"Still counts," Evee continued, "What happened when he finally got to your house?"
I smiled, reminiscing about him brushing my hair back before snapping out of it, "We just talked. And.."
"And?"
"And he called me cute."
Evee screeched and I winced, pulling the phone away from my ear. And then I received a text. From Cole.
"I gotta go." I interrupted Evee's unintelligible howling and hung up extremely fast. I launched my phone into my pillows sitting across from my bed, curling up my legs and letting out a tiny squeal. I leaned over the side of my headboard, the cold metal bars pressed up against my stomach and my hand reaching towards my phone sprawled across the pillows. I grabbed it and threw myself back onto my bed, reading the message.
"Picking you up tomorrow:) be ready." Cole had said.
I bit my lip in indecision and typed back, "In your dreams."
I didn't get a reply, so I tossed my phone aside, took a shower and got ready for bed.
When I woke up, it was still somewhat dark outside and my phone was blowing up. I rolled over and grabbed it off of my desk, my eyes squinting at the lit up screen that read 5:00 AM along with 10+ messages of Cole spamming me to get up. I rolled my eyes, and texted back, "Jesus Christ, I'm coming."
I rushed myself upwards and pulled on my blue mom jeans, a thick red vintage sweater and a jean jacket. I slipped on my plain white vans, pulled out the braids I had in my hair from last night's shower, and brushed through it with a small comb before rushing down the stairs.
I swung open the front door, with pretty glass patterns on the center and rushed towards Cole's sleek black car.
"You took forever." He muttered, watching me get into the car. He was quiet as per usual, wearing black jeans that weren't too loose or too obnoxiously tight, and a white shirt that fit him perfectly. He smelled lightly of cologne, and his hair was draped in front of his eyes messily, but intentionally. I felt like I looked like trash next to him, he was so well put together.
"I didn't exactly expect you to come pick me up at 4:30 AM, forgive me if I'm a bit late."
"I'm an early riser," Cole chuckled, but I had a feeling he only did it to annoy me after being bratty to him yesterday night, "I have something to show you."
He started the car, turning the key. But, before he pressed the gas, he turned to me and pulled out a black cloth.
"You want me to put it on?" I gave him a strange look.
"You don't trust me?" He nodded his head, implying he wanted me to turn around so he could put it over my eyes. I hesitated, but shook my head and turned so he could wrap it around my eyes. I moved my hair over my shoulders, revealing my neck so he could tie the cloth. His hands were warm, and I felt his fingers brush against my skin. The cold air surrounded us, our cheeks both flushed. I couldn't tell if it was just from the cold weather, though.
He finished tying the ribbon around my neck, and he finally lifted it over my eyes. I heard him chuckle a bit, but he pressed on the gas and I felt the car leave my driveway. Usually, in this situation with some guy I've known for a total of 4 days and my parents unaware of my location, I'd be more nervous. But with Cole, it felt natural. He had a way of making me feel comfortable, but nervous at the same time.
I felt the car finally stop after a few minutes of silence, and him opening and closing his door. His keys jangled as he walked to my side of the car, opening the door and grabbing my cold hands. He pulled me away from the car, locking it and making sure I wasn't about to run into anything near.
When we arrived where he wanted, I felt sand beneath my shoes & a salty breeze blowing in front of us. I instantly knew where we were, and a tiny smile formed on my face as he took the cloth away from my eyes. As the dark colored cloth was removed, more and more of the sunrise was revealed. I've seen the sunrise of my hometown so many times- but you just never get enough of it.
I heard Cole laying a blanket out behind me, patting it with his hand to signal that he wanted me to sit. I cocked my head, suddenly remembering today was Friday.
"What about school?" I asked, feeling guilty for even caring about it when he was here doing this for me.
"School will be here next week, but it starts at 7 anyway. If you don't wanna be with me anymore by then, then I can take you."
I was sure that wouldn't be the case, but I nodded anyway and sat down on the blanket, admiring the purple-yellow sky. Cole walked back towards the car, and when he came back he placed down a little cooler with a couple of sprites & miscellaneous snacks. The fact that he brought sprite + nutella and bread to watch the sunrise made me giggle, but I found it so endearing at the same time.
He seemed to notice me smiling, so he turned towards me genuinely confused, and asked, "What's funny?"
"Oh, it's nothing. Don't worry about it." I turned the opposite direction to avoid laughing in his face.
"No, really, what's funny?" I couldn't hold it back anymore.
In between giggles, I managed to say, "You brought nutella and sprite to watch the sunrise with me."
"Yeah?" Cole said confidently, "Sprite is the best beverage to watch the sunset drinking. What'd you want me to bring, champagne? And everyone likes nutella. I see no problem."
"I like it." I smiled, turning towards him.
"Good." He sighed, almost like he was relieved.
We spent an hour or two talking about random things, like music or favorite foods. I discovered a lot about Cole. He likes chocolate milk, hates olives, loves horror movies and that he's actually a huge nerd. I wouldn't be able to guess any of that by looking at him, but that makes him all the more interesting.
The more time I spend with him, the more I notice just how reserved he is. For a flirt, and someone with such a cool friend group, you'd think that he'd be more extroverted.
"It's almost 7." Cole interrupted yet another comfortable silence.
"And?" I asked, forgetting completely about school.
"Does this mean I make you forget about all your problems?" Cole smiled, his eyes gleaming slightly.
"Not at all." I said, thinking differently.
