The next morning I wake up to Jake, my 18yr old adoptive brother, pounding on my door.
"Claire", he yells, " You're boyfriend is here to see you".
Boyfriend? Who could that be?
" I'll be right down" I call in my confusion.
I throw on a pair of jeans and a hoodie, and head down the stairs. To my surprise I see Michael standing at the door.
"Hello, Claire", he says," I have come to give you a ride to school"
I can feel the heat rushing to my face as my brother gives me a look like 'when did this happen?'.
"Okay give me a moment" I say, and rush into the bathroom.
I quickly do my hair and makeup since I slept in anyway and Michael is just adding to the morning madness. I come out of the bathroom and literally run into Jake. He pulls me into the hallway.
"Who is this kid", he asks,"Where did he come from and why is he here?"
Jake has always been protective of me, even though we aren't actually related, but I've never seen him act this way before.
" Calm yourself", I say, " he's just a boy from school, okay".
" Since when do you give random people from school our address?" he says with a furious look in his eyes.
" What is you're problem?", I said backing away, "He's just a boy".
He lightened up," I'm sorry", he said with a sigh, " I was just worried because I don't want you getting hurt, Claire"
" It's okay, Jake" I say "I've got to go, bye"
" Bye" he said gathering his things to go to school himself.
As I walk towards the door I think about what Jake said about giving Michael our address. I glance at him and he has a look on his face like he just outsmarted Albert Einstein. As we walk out the door Michael leisurely places his hand on the small of my back. As soon as I hear Jake close the door I pull away from Michael.
"What was that?", I say furiously.
"Just being neighborly" he said smiling.
"What?"I said shocked.
"I just moved in with the Robinsons down the street" he said.
I didn't say anything about them because I know that they are a foster family.
"That's great", I said as he pulled out of the driveway, trying to be as sarcastic as possible "that's just wonderful".
"I know", he said cheerfully.
As we pulled into the parking lot I saw some of the jocks looking at us. I quickly look away because those are the same kids that constantly tell me my parents killed themselves because they couldn't stand to have such an ugly daughter. I know they will find some cruel nickname to make out of this, so I hurry to class with Michael calling my name behind me.......
