The window was open, and the wind was blowing my curtains around. I know my window was closed earlier. I'm not sure what the fuck is going on, but I will not be stupid and go find out what is like they do in horror movies/books.
I just got up, shut the window, laid back down, and drifted to sleep.
~~
I had hardly gotten any sleep, and the sleep did get was just before my alarm went off. I got up to go get dressed, and when I opened my drawer, sitting on top of my shirts, I saw a letter. The envelope was crimson.
"god damn it, I'm too tired for this shit," I grumbled under my breath trying to convince myself that I wasn't afraid.
I picked up the note with shaking hands and opened it. The letter was brief, but what was inside... the letter read,
'I said you I would see you soon, it's a shame we couldn't talk last night. If only you had left your room. Have you seen your parents?'
I remembered the man I bumped into a couple of nights back, and what does he mean 'have I seen my parents'!?
I rush out of my room to my parents' room; they had separate beds because the apartment is too small for them to have separate rooms. The beds had been pushed together and my parents were hanging from the ceiling, smiles cut into their faces, holding hands.
"holy- "I collapsed to my knees'
what the fuck am I seeing right now, I gather my thoughts and call the police with my hands shaking violently.
"911, what's your emergency"
"I- there's been a murder."
"what's your name and address?"
"Isabella Mason, and 7664 BlackJay Drive,"
I was on the phone; though I was talking, my thoughts drowned the noise out. I gave them my information then sat on my parent's bed, I just sat there. This all felt fake like I would wake up soon.
I heard sirens, and soon someone was in front of me,
"Hey? Hello?"
they were waving their hand in front of my face and asking me if I was ok, which snapped me back into reality.
"huh, yes, I'm fine" I brought my hand up to my face. It was wet? Was I crying?
The entire day went by fast, first I was at my house, then the police station getting questioned about... uh, the murder. I told them I was getting food but saw their door was open; I lied to them because I didn't want them to know about the letter.
I was back at my house, the place where they were killed. I'm in college meaning I'm legally an adult so I didn't have to go live with someone else. Even after all that happened, I lied down, and somehow I could get some sleep.
I was in a silver room, this dream, I've had it before. A little girl in a white dress comes toward me.
"Isabella, what happened," she asks as if she was crying
"I- I don't know. I was in my room, my window, then our parents and I- it's all-"
she looks at me then walks away
"H-hey, where are you going?"
I tried to chase after her, but she disappeared into the wall
I sat up from my dream drenched in sweat,
"Jesus" I mumble, then look at my clock, it's 4 am
I get up out of bed because there's no way I'm falling back asleep, and head toward the bathroom so I can shower.
I turned on the shower and brushed my hair while the water was getting warm. When I was brushing my hair, I looked at myself in the mirror, my long black hair was knotted, my blue eyes had dark bags under them, and I looked thinner than usual.
I got in the shower, letting the water hit my face. What am I going to do about my college? I was living with my parents because I couldn't afford to pay for myself to have food, a house, and to go to school. Maybe I need to get another job.
I got out of the shower and reached for the towels that I set on the shelf, but grabbed a piece of paper that wasn't there before. I looked at the piece of paper; it was another red letter. I threw the letter down and grabbed my towel, wrapping it around myself.
I ran out of the bathroom and checked the house for whoever left the letter, first the kitchen, the living room, my parents' room, then mine. There was no one in the house but the window in my room was open, I'm assuming that's how they got in.
It freaked me out thinking someone could come and go as they please inside my house. Remembering I was practically naked, I shut the window and threw on some clothes, then headed back to the bathroom to read the letter.
'I hope you enjoyed my presents. I wanted to give you a happy family and having your parents always fighting wouldn't let you have that, so I helped them be happy together.'
