Amber (now 15) had went to a restaurant with a bunch of friends and she brought some food home and put it in the refrigerator. A few days later she seen her stepfather eating the food and she asked him if he knew it was hers. He told her he did but he did not care and her mom took up for him. This was not the first time they had teamed up against Amber.
"Mom, I can't believe you let him do whatever he wants to me. You never have my back," Amber yelled as she had finally had enough.
"Amber, stop being such a brat. He is my husband!" Janice responded.
"I am not being a brat. And I don't care if he is your husband or not, I am your daughter. What happened to 'its me and you no matter what?'" she exclaimed.
"What are you talking about? It is still you and me? There is just another person now."
"No it isn't just you and me anymore. It is you and him. You have never had my back since you married that piece of garbage."
"Janice really? Is this how you let your daughter speak about me?" James quickly asked.
"Amber, that's enough. You do not get to talk to me like that or speak about your stepfather like that!" Janice reprimanded her.
"Oh I get it now Mom. You let him control you. You let him govern your every move. Do you not have a mind of your own anymore? What does he have on you?" Amber questioned.
"I....I....Amber!"
At that very moment, Janice was speechless. She knew Amber was right. But she had to do as he said or she would suffer the consequences. As Janice was thinking of a response James walked up to Amber and raised his hand as if he were about to smack her.
"James! Stop!" Janice yelled as she grabbed his hand.
In an instant, James had twirled around and had Janice in the air, holding her by her throat against a wall. Amber was stunned. She did not know what to do. She seen her mother panting for air as this awful man just held her there. She noticed her mother's face start to turn more pale. Not knowing what to do she grabbed a pan off of the counter beside her.
"Let go of my mother!" Amber screamed viciously as she swung the pan and hit James in the back of the head, knocking him out.
"Amber! What have you done??" Janice tried to yell, as she gasped for air and fell to the floor.
"I saved you, that's what I did. He is still alive. I can see him breathing. But we need to get the police over here." Amber replied.
"Amber, he will kill you. You made a big mistake."
"He won't kill me. I am calling the cops...and my Dad," Amber responded as she pulled out her phone. She had just reconnected with her father this past year.
"No don't call the cops. Please."
"Mother, I am not going to let him hurt you ever again."
Amber powered her phone on and dialed 911. She stood there as the phone continued to ring. Then, after a few rings the dispatcher picked up.
"911, what's your emergency?" the dispatcher asked.
"I need police quick. My mom's husband almost killed her. I have him knocked out right now but I don't think it will be much longer." she quickly responded.
"Okay ma'am, what is the address?"
"My address is 847 Waverly Street"
"Okay, sending the police there right now."
"Thank you so much" Amber thanked her as she hung up the phone.
"Mom, I need you to go lock yourself in your car right now! I am calling Dad."
"Amber, I can't leave you alone in here."
"Yes you can. Now go! Now!"
"Okay I am going" Janice said as she walked out of the house.
Amber picked up her phone and called her Dad.
"Hey Dad! I need you to come here as quickly as you can! James almost killed Mom by pinning her up against the wall by her throat! I have knocked out for now and the police are on their way. Can you please come and hurry?" Amber asked her father. She thanked any God listening for the fact that she was able to reconnect with him even though he gave up his rights long ago. But he had said it was a mistake and he was young. However, he was given his rights to her back about three months ago.
"Of course, I am on my way" Mark responded very quickly as he hung the phone up.
As soon as Amber sat the phone down, James started to wake up.
