Bani kept staring at the moon with her elbow propped on the table. It was time to break their fast but Veer had not come back home from office yet. She felt so happy. She had not expected Veer to keep the fast for her. Well, she had not expected such a relationship as well. Mrs. Bani Veeranshu Singhania. It felt so real and so beautiful. She was decked up in a red lehenga. She felt so giddy of excitement when she wore her dress, make up and jewellery. She let her hair be open because Veer liked it that way. “Tumhaare andhere mein chamakne lagi hoon main Veer.” She spoke to herself and blushed.
Veer had come to her like a hurricane, unexpected, everything that once held her in place ripped away – the hatred, the retribution, the vengeance. She was raw, hurting and he was patient, caring, no matter what. The love he showed was a new thing for her, though she had given it to others she had never felt it poured over herself like a salve.
Veer is the fire, that brings a warmth that's new to her. He is the intensity, that steadies her heart in a way she needed for so long. He sees her differences, things others run from, and finds them as beautiful instead. He has become more than her anchor, the warm sunny rays of a new beginning that kiss her softly. He is her rest, a calmness to soothe her flames to a steady heat instead of the consuming inferno that has raged within her, unable to quell. To find someone so similar yet so different is flattering, joyous, creating higher highs - this is better. This is finding the other half to a broken heart, a feeling of completeness.
Strong; she can stand alone and take care of everything she needs to but she needs from this marriage a sense of mutual love and nurture. She wants Veer to be there for her when the sun gives way to the stars and when it returns to reignite the colours of the daytime. All she wants is his kisses, his hugs and that smile she can see in his eyes.
“I am so sorry sweet heart.” Veer came rushing to the terrace, a box wrapped in silver gift paper in his hand. Her eyes met his and he stopped in his tracks. That is where the chaos began. Good gracious God. He had no words to describe how beautiful she looked in her lehenga. A simple red off shoulder blouse and a heavily embroidered skirt. Her chandbali earrings were perfect but the delicate chain on her waist was taking away life from him. The only question in his heart was that why was Bani not wearing her sindoor or mangalsutra?
The very next moment Bani offered him her sindoor and mangalsutra because she wanted him to make her wear those. Overwhelmed, Veer hooked the mangalsutra around her neck and applied sindoor in the parting of her forehead. Something about Bani had definitely changed, he realized. There was a shyness to her, hesitation in her body movements and a softness in her voice.
“Aane mein badi der lagaadi? Main kab se tumhara intezaar kar rahi hoon.” Bani asked him as she started preparing the thaali for pooja.
“Bohot traffic thha.” Veer said innocently.
“Koi baat nahi. Poora din beet gaya, thakaan ho gayi hogi naa? Bhook lagi hogi?” Bani looked at him after lighting the diya.
“Tumhe bhi?” Veer asked as he took the thaali from the table.
“Veer yeh kya kar rahe ho?” Bani was wearing her chunni on her head when she saw that Veer had already started the rituals to break their fast.
“Don’t worry sweet heart. Maine poori research ki hai. Mujhe pata hai vrat kholne ke liye pooja kaise karte hai.” Bani was puzzled but more then that amazed at how Veer was correctly doing the rituals. He offered water to the moon, saw Bani's face through the sieve and he even prayed for her.
“Veer yeh kya kar rahe ho?” Bani stepped back immediately as he was about to touch her feet. “Please mere paaon mat chhuon.”
“Lekin yeh toh riwaaz hai naa?”
“Husbands pairr nahi chhoote.” She did not know what else to say to him.
“Mere pyaar mein sab equal eqaul hota hai sweet heart. Agar main tumhaare pairr nahi chhoo sakta toh tum bhi mere pairr nahi chhoo sakti.”
“Theek hai.” Saying Bani took the thaali from his hand, kept it on the table and wrapped her arms around him. “Hum ek doosre ke pairr nahi chhuenge. Ek doosre ke gale lagenge.” Veer dropped a kiss in her hair. He wrapped his arms around her in a moment and she let her head rest upon his chest. All her thoughts stopped as if her heart takes over from her head when they are this close. Next he squeezed her as if he needed to check she was really there with him, really there and really real. And she was, body and soul.
She stepped out of the embrace and completed her Karwachauth rituals. She prayed, prayed wholeheartedly for the man she loves. How was she to put their love into mere words? An entire ocean of ink would not be enough to describe them. They are a starburst of light amongst the darkening dusk. They are all the stars in the sky condensed into a single point. They are everything and nothing at the same time. Together, they were both a beautiful dream and a catastrophic nightmare. They are in love. Many from Naagvanshi's and Cheelvanshi's do not approve her as Veer's wife but it does not matter to her. What matters is that she is his Ardhangini.
“Main toh tumhare liye gift laya hoon, mera gift kahaan hai?” Veer asked holding out his hand for his present. He tried to ask her in several different ways throughout the day about what did she get for him but she wanted it to be a surprise.
Bani smiled and turned. She brought all her hair to the right shoulder. Veer could not believe what she has done. It took a second or two for the new information to sink it, even though it is right before his eyes. She got a tattoo on the name of her neck which said ‘Vani'.
“Bani, yeh…” Veer was thinking about how to ask her about the tattoo.
“Veeranshu aur Bani ko ek kar diya maine, Veer Bani, Vani.” She looked over her shoulder and smiled. Veer gently touched the tattoo and stared at it in awe. She did this for him.
She turned, with her chin raised, she stepped closer to him. She slid her hands up his chest, revelling in the solid heat beneath her palms. She tiptoed and linked her fingers behind his neck. Sending up a silent prayer that she would not make a fool of herself, she nuzzled his neck. His scent, spicy and masculine, swamped her. She kissed her way up and down his throat in the same way she wanted him to kiss her. His breath caught. The sheer joy of holding her so close to him rippled through him. She nipped at the underside of his jaw. A low rumble started deep in his chest. Bani pulled back to meet his eyes. She closed her eyes and whispered in his ear “I love you Veer”.
