"Summer Andrea Davis! Get the forbidden f word up!"

Why am I even surprised? Please insert an overdramatic sigh. Dear lord, one moment of peace and quiet was all I ever wished for! But no time was left to mope around. Surprisingly enough, it went all quiet for a short while.

But suddenly I was jolted awake by vigorous footsteps coming towards my door like a stampede, the door flinging open, and I being squashed in a bear hug, making it harder for me to breath. All in the span of hardly two seconds.

"C-can't...brea-breathe!" I choked out to the mop of frizzy hair before me. The familiar scent of pineapples and mint invaded my senses. I was soon out of the supposed death trap. Looking up, I saw a beaming Cherylene looking down at my messy self.

"Seriously?! I come to you house at freaking seven in the morning and you're still in bed?! How could you?" She placed a hand over her heart, pretending to faint. I lightly slapped her arm and she jolted up. Crossing my arms over my chest and narrowing my eyes, I observed her.

"So what brings you here?" She just laughed and spoke up. "Have you seen the time? I wanted to help you get ready!" At this I turned again and saw the smart clock sitting on my bed.

7:15

"Holy mother of monkey milk!" And with that I was off to my bathroom, barely managing to grab my towel in the process. Meanwhile my brunette friend stood there, watching with clear amusement. Don't ask me why. We have this same routine since middle school yet she still manages to get a good laugh from this.

After a short but refreshing hot cold shower, I went out of the bathroom, in my robe. Cherylene was going through my closet. Multiple outfits were laid out on my bed. There was a white flowy dress with blue flowers printed on it, paired with a denim jacket which had multiple batches like peace sign, flamingos, girl power, etc on it. Shoes were brown boots to match. Then there was a off-shoulder white dress with knitted patterns paired with brown sandals. And the last one. It was an off-shoulder burgundy crop top with a knot on the neckline and the hem. With washed denim shorts.

"What are you-" before I could complete my sentence, I was cut off my mu best friend, yet again. "No comments. Only choosing. So what do you want to wear to the first day of school~" she ended the last part in a sing-song voice. I huffed and sat on the couch. "It's not even school. It's summer school!" I made sure to put major emphasis on summer. But I guess she wasn't having any of it. "I said NO COMMENTS!"

My mother's voice came form downstairs. "Everything okay girls?!" Wait, how could she hear us? Cher didn't even yell that loud. "Everything's fine Mrs. Davis!" Cherylene replied casually. "Alrighty. Hurry up. Stephanie will be here to pick you all up!" Came the answer and we both groaned.

"Seriously? One nuisance was enough. Now we have to deal with another for thirty minutes!" I said. "Hmm-hmm" Cherylene fake coughed. "Oh right- outfit!" I analyzed the options carefully. Shorts will be one heck of a problem. You can never trust those devilish piece of clothing. The white dress will be a bit plain. So that leaves us with "The dress and denim jacket, I guess", I replied. Cher did a little victory dance, saying something about how she loves the dress on me or something and rushed me to the bathroom.

After changing into the said clothes and dumping my pyjamas into the laundry basket, I slipped on the boots. Grabbing my nude pink backpack and phone, i was dragged downstairs. Arriving at the kitchen, I saw two devils chatting profusely. They turned to us and Stephanie immediately had that judgy look on. What is she? A cockroach or something?

"Hello ladies. Oh- I like your jacket, Sum." She said with a clearly fake smile. If she wants to play dirty, two can play this game. Pulling my best mean face on I spoke, "Hello Stephanie, it's Summer btw. Not Sum. Normal people can call me Sum." Her smile visibly faltered and Cher have out a not-so-secret snort of laughter.

"Mom! Summer's being mean to Stephanie!" Ofcourse. Who to rely on for getting snitched? Mom and dad soon came in the kitchen, both dressed in formal attire. Mom frowned. "Well, that's new. It usually you job being the mean one." Without controlling ourselves, me and Cher burst into laughter alongside dad.

"Okay okay. Enough. We have some news." We sat on the table. "We have a convention to attend to. In Washington" She revealed. I don't know what's wrong with that. They always have conventions. "Well what's special this time?" April voices my thoughts. My parents shuffled uncomfortably in their seats. "Well er, it's um..." mom started only to be cut off by dad. "It will be for the whole summer." Me and April looked at each other. And unsurprisingly had different reactions. She had a smug look while I was worrying my butt off.

"What? B-but April will go crazy again! You can't just leave!" I intervened. Mom smile and held both my hand. "Well we trust you to keep her in check." She stated as if it was nothing. "Uh...hello? I'm still here you know." I let out an annoyed huff. "Okay. Fine." A tap on my shoulder made me turn to my side. Stephanie was tapping her wristwatch making me look at mine.

"Oh crap." A look from my parents was far better than from Principal Roman. "Yeah we gotta run. Bye love you. Have a good convention summer." With two quick hugs to mom and dad, April was out the door with Stephanie. "I'll wait in the car" and Cherylene was out the door too.

I stood up and went to my parents, pulling them into a group hug. "I love you both. Be safe." I pulled away. "We will. And believe us, we didn't want to leave you both alone for the whole summer. But work came in the way." Dad said, kissing my forehead. "I know work before anything. I have to go. And I promise I'll keep April safe-" this time mom cut me off. "No, not only April. You'll take care of yourself too. And have fun. Go to parties. Bring friends over-" "But no boys, okay?" Dad intervened making us laugh.

A car honk sounded. "Well, that's my cue." I said and they both nodded smiling. "What would we do without you? It's really generous of you to go to summer school with April, ya know." Mom said.

I just nodded and went out the front door, mom and dad following behind. I got into the back seat where Cherylene was seated. "Finally! Ready to go?" Stephanie asked and we all nodded, and she drove off. I waved at my parents who waved back. Well, this summer should be interesting.
