melanie smiled to herself as she unlocked the doors to her parents home.

inside, a group of guys rested on the familiar dark wood table.

"mel!" alex catches her at the door. "how was it?"

she wanted absolutely nothing to do with them.

"it was fine." she responded with a glare. looking her brother up and down, then moving her eyes to the table behind him.

she had only recognized one guy, which was sebastian, her brothers best friend.

sebastian sends a quick smile. the other guys looked at him wondering why he felt the need to even look at the girl.

her best friend stood by the stairs excited to see her. melanie didn't spend a another second there and went upstairs with her.

"isn't sebastian gorgeous?" jess mocks.

"you're funny, i don't like him." she laughed to her. sebastian was too much of a friend, not to mention he was a dick to other girls. nobody's good enough.

"i thought you'd meet someone at that camp." jess sighed, hoping that her friend would finally find someone she could tolerate.

melanie believed that anyone other than herself would drag her down. she didn't need dead weight. all she needed was herself. it's been herself since she was born.

and they were all dead weight.
