monday

melanie tapped on her desk anxiously waiting for the lunch bell to ring throughout history.

everyday she met jess at lunch and listened to all the gossip she had to tell her from being a TA in the teachers lounge.

it's better than being alone during lunch.

hearing teacher gossip made her life just a little more interesting.

her thoughts are quickly interrupted by the sound of the school bell ringing through her ear. she quickly got out of her seat and walked into the cafeteria.

she spotted jess at their usual table that just so happens to be behind her brothers.

she sat down in her usual seat, next to jess and across from the table. "hey." she smiled.

"hey bitch." jess gives her a stern look then they both break into laughter.

"do you want to come over after school? my brothers busy." melanie shrugs.

"can i come another day?" she offers. "my mom wants me to meet her boyfriend."

she sighs, "that's alright."

jess knew she cancelled on her a ton, and she felt guilty about it.

"want anything from the vending machine? i've got money but no lunch." she started up.

melanie hesitated, "no thanks." jess got up from her seat and walked to the nearby door where a young man in a blue hoodie walked directly beside her.

she waited for a minute until she watched her friend come back safely with a bag of chips in her hand.

"who was that kid in the hoodie that went with you?" she blurted.

jess looked behind her, expecting to see the person melanie was talking about. but nobody fit her description.

"who?" jess laughed.

friday

the week went by fast, it was already friday. jess hasn't shown up for class the rest of the week.

she looked at jess' locker that hasn't been touched for days. right next to it was hers.

she couldn't help but think of that event she had told her about on monday. was she skipping class to be with them?

melanie was a junior in high school, meaning she needed jess to get through another year of highschool. jess missed a few days every month but it was never by weeks.

she closed her locker to reveal her brother standing behind it.

"mel?" he softly spoke. she looked him up and down, wondering why he looked so worried. "im sorry," he paused, "about jessica."
