The Airplane ride was awful. I am deathly scared of heights, the sky, roller coasters, and pretty much anything associated with being higher than me by at the most 10 feet. Unfortunately for me, that list included airplanes. I absolutely hated them. Like seriously, you are literally being suspended thousands of feet above the ground, the only thing keeping you from plummeting to a fiery and inexplicably painful death is the air. the air. THE AIR. The weightless, non-scented, invisible fluid (yes air is a fluid) thing that we call air. Not something I enjoy. Anyway, I have been having a pretty rough time. I don't like to have self pity, but cut me some slack. My mom died while flying in an airplane,(which is definitely the number one reason I hate airplanes) my dad just lost his job, we are moving away from all my friends, and on top of all that, I have a disease that causes me to not be able to play any sports. Plus, I'm moving to a huge city. San Fransisco to be exact. The dirty, smelly air, the crime, the traffic, is all too different from rural Maine. We had to move to get away from what happened to mom. It was all too much. I heard a buzz; it was my phone. A text message from my best friend.
Amber: Hey Mace! Totes missing you right now😭 Austin just asked me out. I said Hell Yeah! Anyway, school has sucked since you left. Well gtg I'm in the bathroom during gym😂. Ttyl ily!
Ugh. Just thinking about going to school without Amber made me want to die. I flipped open my camera to check my makeup and hair. My hair was bleached blonde, with a pink streak on one side. It was thrown up into a messy bun. My makeup was simple. Eyeliner, mascara, a bit of blush, and some pink lipstick. And of course, concealer.
"We will be landing shortly. Please fasten your seatbelt and return your chair to the upright position. We may experience some slight turbulence, but please keep in mind out pilots have everything under control. And Thank you for flying Jet Blu!" The service announcement was over. My heart began to race. It was always the hardest getting started and landing. I closed my eyes and put my earbuds in.
