"Babe!" Michael yelled from deeper inside the apartment. "Hurry up!"
Adelaide rolled her eyes, finally stepping outside of the washroom after re-checking her perfected messy bun (she didn't see how it was supposedly "effortless"- it took an endless amount of tries to get it right).
"You look pretty," Michael whispered into her ear as she rushed up to him, sending shivers going down her spine.
"That tickles," she mumbled, glaring at him playfully. "And I'm wearing a sweater and skinny jeans."
"Yeah, so what? You still look great," Michael complimented, winking and reaching behind her to grab him phone off the table by the door.
Michael and Adelaide had dated for two years (yes, she has seen the best of him), and it was fifty minutes away from 2017.
"Hold on a moment, I need to get something before we go," Michael says, handing Adelaide his phone. "Wait outside for me, Luke's there. Stay with him."
Adelaide nodded in response as he rushed away to grab whatever he needed before the clock struck midnight, and did what her boyfriend (!!!) instructed her.
"Hi, Luke," Adelaide greeted with a grin, running up to her tall friend. "What's up?"
"I'm just waiting for Michael to get his ass out here so we can get to the spot in time." He rolled his eyes irritatedly, checking the time on his phone. "How's life?"
"It's great," she replied, sitting down on the sidewalk and setting Michael's phone on the ground. "I've never been better."
"So you mean you feel even better than when you lost your virginity to Michael?" Luke asked with a small smirk.
"No, that was the best experience of my life and nothing would ever top that," Adelaide said dryly with a small snort.
"I'm sure it was," he chuckled.
"What was?" Michael asked, making Luke and Adelaide jump.
"Nothing," Adelaide sang, handing Michael his phone back to him and allowing Luke to help pull herself up.
"I'm sure it was," Michael said, doing a terrible impression of his friend. Luke laughed, dusting himself off.
"Let's get to the place before midnight, yeah?"

"Three minutes 'till midnight," Ashton announced loudly.
It was a nice thing that they all arranged. They had set up a spot on a large, open field, the moon on full display. Everyone was sitting on the grass, just waiting for the big moment where the month, day, hour, and year all changed to happen. There were fans, too - just around ten or so, not too many. It was peaceful, and also exciting, if that made any sense.
"Adelaide?" Michael spoke up quietly from beside the girl. Nobody noticed - everyone was too caught up in chatting with each other to notice the couple.
"Yeah?" she responded, just as quietly.
"We've been together for a really long time, and, uh, I just wanted to say that Michael - I, I mean - I really, um, I really l-love you," he stammered, stumbling over his words.
