A/N: Don't read this if you haven't read Flashback yet.

"Miss Vanal, the library is about to close," The librarian, Mrs. Merit said. Rubi really loved books-any kind of books. She stayed at the library every day after school until the library closed at 7:00.

"Okay! Can I borrow this? It's really really interesting," Rubi told Mrs. Merit, handing the first book of the Keeper of the Lost cities series.

"Sure!" Mrs. Merit checked her library card, then handed the book to Rubi. "Have a nice day!" She told Mrs. Merit.

As Rubi walked along the sidewalk, she bumped into her best friend, Allie. She had wavy brown hair and hazel eyes, which Rubi was jealous of. She only had plain green eyes and blonde hair.

"Library again?!" Allie said in disbelief.

Rubi shrugged. "One day, I'm going to read every single book in the library. Oh, hey, look! I borrowed this book called Keeper of the Lost Cities!! It's soooooooooo fun you should read it!"

"I already read the whole series. I just didn't tell you, because it was the time when you were OBSESSED with The Land of Stories, and whenever I tried to recommend it, you said, 'I'm not reading any book until I finish the whole series. It even has a sequel.'" Allie said.

Rubi scoffed. "You read a whole series before me? How is that even possible? You don't even like books!"

Allie glared at Rubi. "I never said I didn't like it!!! I just said-"

"Yeah, yeah "Books are kinda boring" I KNOW!!!!" Rubi interrupted, clutching the KOTLC book on her chest.

"Fine. If we're going to get into a fight, then I won't invite you to my birthday party," Allie fumed, trying to walk past Rubi, until she grabbed her wrist.

"Dude-your birthday was last week," Rubi said matter-of-factly.

Allie stomped her feets. "DANG IT! I can never trick you!!"

Rubi smiled wickedly. "Nope, you can't! Anyway, where are you going?"

Allie thought for a moment. She racked her brain. She couldn't remember. "Um, how could I forget??? Um. OH YEAH!!!!!! I was going to go to Lee's house!"

"Who's Lee? Never heard of him. IS HE YOUR BOYFRIEND?!?!?!?!" Rubi shrieked.

"I'm only in 7th grade, and LEE IS MY 2ND COUSIN!!!!!!!!!" Allie yelled. "I have to go pick up my social studies book I left there!"

Rubi nodded. "Okay, well, see you tomorrow!"

"Lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala!!" Rubi's little sister, Rosie (8 yr) sang.

"Can you stop singing?! I have to concentrate on pouring this glass of milk!" Rubi's older brother, Shane (15 yr) yelled.

"I can pour a beverage in a glass with my eyes closed," Rubi snorted. Her brother was just sometimes so dumb at times.

"HmmMmmMmmmmMmmmmMMmm!" Rosie hummed, eating a sausage.

"STOP HUMMING, IF I SPILL, MOM'S GOING TO GET MAD!!!" Shane demanded. He held the glass in one hand, and the milk in the other.

"OMG, you're even HOLDING it wrong! You have to put the cup down, and pour the glass of milk!" Rubi said, not believing how stupid Shane was.

"*whistleeeeeeeee*" Rosie whistled.

"STOP. WHISTLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Shane howled.

"Dumdumdumdudmdudmdudimddudmdm!" Rosie sang under her breath. When Shane glared at her, Rosie said, "What? I stopped whistling!"

"Children, get ready for school- what on earth, Shane? Your milk is RIGHT there on the table!" Mrs. Vanal said, in a rush to get out of the house.

"Oh. WELL YOU COULD'VE TOLD ME EARLIER!!!" Shane drank the glass of milk, wiped his mouth, and slammed the door to the house.

Rubi took Rosie by the house, and went inside the car. She saw Shane walking on the sidewalk, not far out.

"SHANE!! You're supposed to get in the car!!! You can't walk to school!" Rubi yelled.

Shane turned around, and went into the front seat. "Oh. You can't?"

"DUH you can't!" Rosie chimed in. "Even I know that, and I'm seven years younger than you!"

"Shut up," Shane muttered.

Mrs. Vanal got into the car, and drove Rosie to her elementary school, took Shane to his high school, then took Rubi to her Middle school, HoneyBrooks.

"What took you so long? 1st period is starting in 5 minutes!" Allie said, running up to her in the locker room.

Rubi sighed, getting out her english notebook. "I...had...brother issues," she said.

Allie smiled. "I'm lucky I'm an only child. You make siblings sound so annoying."

"BECAUSE THEY ARE! Except for Rosie, y'know? Wait, no, wait. She's SO annoying, never mind," Rubi said, heading her way to her English class.

Rubi's english teacher, Mr. Fielder was booming at them. He wasn't yelling, but it sounded like it, so it was basically yelling.

"Alright!!!!!!!!! LEAH!!!! WHAT DOES A SIMILE MEAN!?!?!??!?!" He boomed.

"That's easy. We learned that in 3rd grade! Simile is a figure of speech involving the comparis-" Before Leah could finish her sentence, Mr. Fielder "yelled", "OKAY, WE GET IT! DANIEL!! WHAT DOES A METAPHOR MEAN?!"

"A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not liter-"

"OKAY, WE GET IT!!!!!!!!! RUBI!!!!! GIVE US AN EXAMPLE OF A SIMILE!!!!!!" Mr. Fielder rumbled.

"'The cloud was like fluffy cotton candy-"

"THAT'S BORING!!!! YOU SHOULD'VE SAID, "THE DAD WAS SO MAD, HE WAS LIKE A HUMAN VOLCANO!" NOW, THAT'S INTERESTING!!! BESIDES, WHAT KIND OF CLOUD LOOKS LIKE COTTON CANDY!?!? CLOUDS LOOK LIKE SHAPES OF ANIMAlS OR OBJECTS!!!!! OKAY, I ADMIT CLOUDS ARE LIKE COTTON CANDY, BUT WE CAN'T EAT THEM!!! THAT'S WHAT'S UNFAIR!!!" Mr. Fielder said, rubbing his fat belly.

The class stared at Mr. Fielder.

"WHAT DID I DO WRONG?!!? STOP STARING AT ME, Y'ALL!" Mr. Fielder demanded.

"Mr. Fielder, we have no choice to stare at you, because you're the teacher," Daniel told Mr. Fielder.

"OH. WELL THEN YOU CAN KEEP STARING AT ME. IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE A KING, ANYWAY."

Rubi tuned Mr. Fielder out, and secretly read Keeper of the Lost Cities. She was nearly at the end-maybe about three pages away.

Besides, no one else really listened to Mr. Fielder. (Which was impossible because he's really loud)

"I FINISHED BOOK ONE OF KOTLC!" Rubi cheered. It was after school, and she was going to stop by the library to get the 2nd book, Exile, but Allie insisted that she came over to her house.

"Great! You don't need to go to the library for awhile, since I have the whole KOTLC series-"

"WHERE?!" Rubi interrupted.  "I NEED IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Allie sighed. "Okay, fine. Read it fast. Wanna hang out?"

Rubi gave Allie a weird look. "Hang out?!??! No! I'm too busy! I have to finish KOTLC! Move outta my way! No actually, give me your whole series so I can finish it, OK?"

That night, Rubi slept at 2:00 a.m, finishing Exile. She lied down on her bed, wishing about meeting the KOTLC characters one day, not knowing her wish was going to come true.
