The war had hit the town out of no where. No one was prepared for it to happen. Eren was busy, constantly. But, you couldn't blame him. He was protecting your town, your family. As the war had come to end, the town was destroyed. Minimal lives were lost, but the destruction felt unrecoverable.
Everyone worked hard to rebuild their homes, but it would never be quite the same. As the initial war progressed you and your brother had worked hard on a small home. It was far off the path of the town, in a small flower meadow. Hidden off under a hill, there was a small wooden cottage built. Flowers and vines covering the surface of the cottage.
The dark oak of the cottage slightly chipped as the cottage has begun to be put in use. You stayed there during the day, to avoid the war. You brought a few young children as well, as their parents fought in the for their safety. The children would pick flowers and create bouquets to give to other civilians who still lived in the ruins of the town.
Once night fell, you would arrive back to your small shack, where your lover had once stayed as well. Eren rarely came home at night, but you still wanted to be there in case he arrived. Your lover had no idea that the cottage existed, it was meant to be a surprise. A "thank you for saving our town" gift.
As the war slowly slipped out of the towns grasp, a silent peace fell over the citizens. The soldiers had begun coming home often, rarely leaving to go off and fight. Eventually, white flags were posted, they had surrendered. We had won the war, but the aftermath was still hard to accept.
On the 25th of January, Eren had announced he would be home for good. With that, you were up off your seat. Grabbing his hand you pulled him out of the small building you were seated in.
"I know you're excited, but where are we going?" he questioned as you dragged him across a stoned path.
"You'll see." you say smiling as you begin to jog toward the large patch of flowers.
"What is this?" he asks as he squats down and picks a lilac out of the ground.
"It is a small project that my brother helped me with." you say smiling.
"Well, whatever this project is, it's very pretty." he says as he puts the lilac behind your ear.
"The flowers are not the point, idiot." you say laughing slightly. You pulled him further down the path and twisted the nob on the small cottage in front of you. Pulling him through the door, you do small jazz hands presenting the structure to him.
"This is really nice." he says in awe as he admires the different decorations filling the small cottage.
"This is our home." you say smiling. "We'll be able to settle here." you continue.
"I'm so glad." he says pulling you into a hug. As he releases you takes one more look around the room. "This is the perfect place for our family to blossom." he says with a grin.
