"Hey Kirsten," my mom called out from downstairs.

"What?" I called back.

"I have an idea that I think you might like."

I walked down the stairs to see my mom on the computer. I walked up to her and saw that she was looking at the American Idol website.

"Mom, what're you doing?" I asked, genuinely confused.

"Obviously I'm looking at the American Idol website because I think you should try out for American Idol. What's the worst that can happen?" my mom replied nonchalantly.

"Are you serious mom? My life-long goals and dreams could be shattered. Do you really want a bunch of judges to confirm that I'm not good enough?"

"C'mon sweetie. You and I both know you are good enough. You're voice is amazing and I'm not only saying that because I'm your mom. Why don't you just give it a shot?" My mom looked at me with pleading eyes so I gave in.

"Ugh, okay I guess I'll send in an audition video," I said rolling my eyes.

My mom cheered and told me to look at the website to see what I needed to do to audition.

As I was looking through the website, I realized maybe this is a good idea. Although I've never sang for anyone other than my mom before, I feel like I could maybe get to the round where you perform in front of the real judges. Even though that's not far, I'd still get to meet celebrities so that'd be cool.

I went to my room and used my mom's camera to record a video of me singing Stay With Me by Sam Smith. I tried to get as much emotion through as I could while I was singing and I tried a couple times before I was pleased with the result.

I downloaded the video to my computer and linked it to the email I was sending to the American Idol people for my audition.

At this point, I'm just hoping for the best.

A couple months later

"Kirsten, you got a letter in the mail from the American Idol casting agents!" my mom exclaimed excitedly.

"No way!" I nearly screamed as I was eating my cereal before school.

I ran up to my mom and snatched the envelope out of her hands. Okay Kirsten, this is your one chance don't ruin it.

I took a deep breath before slowly ripping open the envelope. I pulled out the letter and skimmed over it to see the words "congratulations."

I threw the envelope on the counter and screamed. I ran over to my mom and gave her a big bear hug. This is what I've been dreaming of my whole life and now I have an audition in front of Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr, and Keith Urban.

Who knew a girl from a small town in Texas would be this lucky?
