Sophie sat at the table, Grady and Edaline sitting across from her, silently eating their Mallowmelt.

The three of them had agreed to not tell anyone in the council of what had happened only an hour ago, and only tell the friends she was certain she could trust.

But it wouldn't change the fact of the reality. The truth of what had just happened. Her mind could break. The most powerful elf in the lost cities... and she was vulnerable.

Out of no where, Grady's imparter buzzed, and he jumped to his feet. "I'll be right back, this is important." He walked upstairs, and Sophie heard a door close behind him. He probably went into his office.

Edaline shot Sophie an uneasy look, and she knew what she wanted her to do, even without needing to speak it out loud.

Sophie got up and quietly walked up the stairs, stopping to listen through the door of the office.

"What do you mean weird dreams? What kind of weird are you talking about?" Grady asked.

Then the next voice threw Sophie off balance Keefe.

"I mean, we were humans, and some weird stuff happened. It was like everything that happened her was trying to make itself possible in the forbidden cities world. I don't know. Just tell me if she's okay, there are too many people around here to talk much longer. I don't know what I'd do to humans if I accidentally... never mind."

Sophie knew what her meant. She couldn't blame him for being scared. She could blame him however for running away.

Grady let out an exasperated sigh. "Her mind broke when she read your letter... she said something similar to that happened when she was out, she's fine now, but... I don't know. I think you need to come back, or she might break on us again." Silence stretched across Keefe's end, but finally he responded.

"Goodbye Mr. Ruewen. Tell Foster if you want. This is the last time you will ever hear from me." Then, there was a static sound, then the crunch of metal, right before silence.

He had smashed his imparter.

Sophie clenched her fists before walking into the office, arms crossed.

Grady spun around from is place at the window to face her. "How much of that did you hear."

Sophie felt something cold run down her cheek, a tear, as a sense of betrayal swelled in her head. "Enough to know what's going on. Glad to know that my own dad betrayed me." Sophie turned on her heels, stomping upstairs to her room and slamming the door, not even giving Sandor the chance to ask what was going on as she passed.

Once she was inside, she sat down on her bed, letting the tears come pouring down. He had known how to contact him, and he wasn't going to tell her.

A thought occurred to Sophie. How had they had the same dream? Or something close. Unless... Sophie. Sat up, and ran downstairs to where Edaline sat at the table still, waiting.

"Mom, can I have some slumberberry tea?" She asked.

Edaline's eyes widened slightly. "A sedative... are you sure Sophie?"

She nodded. "Yes, I need to sleep, it's the..." she trailed off. "I just need some rest." Edaline nodded before snapping her fingers, and a cup appeared in her hands.

"I had it ready because I didn't think I would be able to sleep tonight, but you seem to need it more than I do." On a normal basis, Sophie might have argued, but she didn't as she down the tea.

Once it was all gone, her head spun, and the drowsiness set in. Sophie gave her mom a reassuring smile before stumbling upstairs with a yawn.

Laying down in bed, she closed her eyes. If she focused hard enough, she could make it back there. To that hospital room where she sat in the wheelchair. Only this time she would know it wasn't real. She would be able to control what she was doing. Maybe not others, but herself. And she would wake up the boy in the coma.

And bring him home.

Sophie felt herself slowly drifting off to sleep, so she pictured the room, everyone's faces as she sat angrily in her wheelchair.

The next time she opened her eyes, it was to look at the boy covered in burn scars from the explosion, asleep and hardly moving in the hospital bed.

She had made it back. Now, just to figure out how to go through with her plan.
