Argonizeria, Zed, 2100

Chapter 2, Morrison High

Scarlett Kelly was in her second last year of school at Morrison High, one of the most prestigious secondary schools in the bustling and thriving city of Argonizeria. She entered the school's parking area in her brand new black XKA 7.9 convertible. Since every car made within the last six or seven decades had a self-driving function, people under seventeen years of age could drive around in them after taking a basic road safety test. As Scarlett opened her car door and slung her backpack on, one of her best friends ran up to her screaming, with her arms open wide.

"Hi Scarlett! That's a sweet new ride you've got there," Angeline Wellington whistled as she admired the car. Scarlett grinned at her friend's reaction,

"I didn't know you were into cars." Angeline gasped in mock surprise and put a hand over her mouth,

"How could you not? We've been friends since the third grade." She hugged Scarlett, "I'm kidding. The car is still pretty awesome, though."

"I know. Both things, that is," Scarlett giggled, and Angeline soon cracked up as well. "Come on, let's go inside and see if Zana's arrived yet." Angeline's brown eyes gleamed.

"Yeah. She has a lot of things to catch us up on." They left the shade of the car park and entered a large, sleek glass building where most of the senior classes were held. The two girls had not seen their other friend, Zana Muraz since the previous year, as she had travelled to Europe with her mother and had been there the entire school break. Her mother loved to get away sometimes and travel with her, since Zana's father had passed away three years ago. Scarlett and Angeline walked up a flight of stairs and saw their friend as soon as they entered the hallway at the top. They all once again squealed and ran up to one another, gathering in for a group hug.

"How were France and Italy?" Scarlett asked. Zana smiled from ear to ear and twirled around dramatically.

"They were unreal. Absolutely amazing. And I saw some really hot guys!" Scarlett raised her eyebrows and smirked.

 "I bet you did."

"What about the landmarks? Which was your favourite?" Angeline asked next. Zana waved her arms in excitement,

"Ooh, in France it was definitely the Eiffel tower in Paris. In Italy, it was between the Colosseum or Pantheon in Rome, or Saint Mark's Basilica in Venice."

"Hey, babe. Why don't you give me a shot this year? I promise I'll be on my best behaviour," a boy's voice came from outside their little circle. They broke their formation and saw Drake Kurosaki. He had been trying to constantly flirt with Scarlett for two years now, and she always rejected him.

"The answer is no, Drake," she told him bluntly. Drake closed in on her, and she took a step back.

"Can you at least tell me why?" He pretended to sound hurt, but his dark eyes were clearly testing her. Scarlett's third friend came up and stood protectively in front of her before the situation escalated.

"Back off, Kurosaki," Clarent Macintosh threatened. He had been friends with Scarlett since the sixth grade, and with Angeline and Zana since the eighth grade. Drake snorted and raised an eyebrow at Clarent mockingly.

"Why? Do you have a crush on her?" he taunted in the voice a person would talk to a puppy dog with. "Hey boys," he called out to everyone in the hallway "Clarent wants Scarlett Kelly all to himself. He says back off." Some of Drake's jock friends laughed along with other boys.

"Shut up," Clarent snapped. Drake walked up to Clarent, staring him in the face.

"Make me," he challenged. Clarent raised his fist but the eleventh-grade biology teacher, Mr Jenson broke the two up.
