Another day of work, nothing too exciting and nothing new

Another day of work, nothing too exciting and nothing new. I sigh as I walk into the cafe, greeted non-other than Na Jaemin.

"Morning Eun-ah"

"Morning" I mutter back. I woke up late this morning while Jaemin, being the early bird he is, went ahead of me for work. I sigh again, thinking back to last night when I cut Jaemin off and abruptly went to bed. It's not that I didn't have an answer, I just didn't want to. He had a point in a way- it was obviously impossible for me to harbour feelings for Hyunjin right now, especially with my sister in the picture. Ah love and romance, the one subject I always seem to fail at. Alas. As if on cue, Jaemin speaks up as I take my place next to him at the counter.

"Eun, about yesterday, I-"

"It's fine, don't worry about it." I respond curtly without looking up." My best friend sighs.

"Look Naeun-"

"Jaem, I said it's fine. Just...drop the subject."

"Naeun, this is serious. Why are you avoiding it?

"It's not that I'm avoiding it, Nana, I just have nothing to say about the subject at the moment. Now can we please just get to work?" My best friend sighs in frustration but thankfully doesn't say a word and just continues with his tasks. I am grateful for his cooperation because honestly, I am NOT in the mood for his constant questions. The bell rings, notifying us of another customer

"Speaking of which..." I hear Jaemin mutter and he gestures towards the door. I glare at him, not looking up. I already know. Great, just my luck.

"Um hello, can I-"

"Jaemin, can you deal with this customer? I'm gonna go sort out some stuff in the staff room." I walk away. Jaemin sighs again before attending to the boy. The fewer interactions I have with him, the better. I walk into the staff room to see Johnny by a computer. I knock and he looks up.

"Hey Boss."

"Can I help you?"

"Nah Johnny, just checking if you've had any luck finding new employees?" My boss sighs again.

"Nope, unfortunately... and I'm hoping we do find some soon otherwise my last resort would be you know who." I chuckle at his response

"Aww c'mon Boss, surely it won't be too bad to have those two around right? Besides, we could use the energy booster." He groans before replying.

"Please Naeun, one can barely fry an egg- and the other one is so full of energy. Not that it's a bad thing but gosh my eardrums won't be able to handle it. And for goodness sake, frying an egg is so simple- how does one mess that up?!?" I chuckle at Johnny.

"Well if you change your mind, I'm sure Jaemin will be happy to work with two of his friends and fellow roommates- when they're not dorming with you older guys that is."

"Ok ok, enough with the age jokes- back to work with you, missy."

"Yessir." I teasingly say, making sure to give Johnny a salute and he rolls his eyes in amusement. I grin, satisfied with my encounter before I turn on my heel and retreat back to my station. Phew, he's gone. I sigh as I get some cups out on the counter, prepping for future drink recipes and orders.

"He-"

"I don't want to hear it. Just get on with the work Jaemin." My best friend sighs at my snappy remark but I don't care. Today was not a day for distractions and the constant going back and forth with my best friend. I just wanted to get on with my shift and go home and relax with time to myself. I need to think.
