Derek's POV

Outside her door, I was pacing. I was terrified. After what they'd done to her, I was surprised she even made it this far. She had been covered in blood and many bones in her body had been at an odd angle. I glanced at Daniel, sat in a seat, with his head in his hands. We were both dying to get into the room and see her, but she was in the middle of operation, so, of course, we weren't. Eventually, when I couldn't take the anxiety any longer, I went over and sat next to Daniel and picked up a magazine, trying to distract myself. But I couldn't push the thought of her out of my head.

We probably sat there for hours, but I was too worried to notice. Finally, when I was just about to explode in anxiousness, the doctor came out and said we could go in for a short while. I had dashed into the room, with Daniel right behind me, before he had even finished his sentence. We stopped dead when we saw her. Her face, while covered in green and black bruises, and horrible cuts, looked almost peaceful as she slept. There were so many wires and tubes attached to her, that we could barely see most of her. I was so gonna kill Haykey and Tori when we went back to school. I could hear the beeps of the machine going pretty fast, but I was hoping that was just because of the drugs or the operation. I watched as Daniel walked over to the seat nearest her and sat down. He took her hand and rubbed his thumb gently on the back of her hand. I walked to the other side and just stood there, feeling terribly guilty. I should have known not to leave her alone. I didn't think they would attack during lunch. I had stupidly thought that they would wait until after school. Daniel voiced my thoughts.

"I knew we shouldn't have left her," he said, still watching her.

"Me too. I thought they would wait until after school," I replied.

"You knew they were planning on beating her up? You moron, why didn't you stay with her, or tell me about it?" he demanded, shooting up and glaring at me.

"I know I was stupid, but you didn't do much better yourself, did you?" I answered, glaring back at him. He had no answer, but didn't stop glaring until the doctor came back in.

"Sorry to interrupt, but she'll be waking up soon and I would like to be here when she does to make sure she is ok," he said, looking at us apologetically. I gave him a small smile. "Is it ok for us to stay, or would you rather us leave you to it?"

"No, no, it's fine, just don't get too close to her, because she may feel slightly crowded," he said, smiling at us.

"Thank you."

Everything was silent except for the beeping, while we waited for her to wake up. When her eyes finally fluttered open, her dark chocolate brown eyes glimmered with confusion, but when she saw me and Daniel her gaze lit up. She took in her surroundings, carefully, trying to remember what had happened. When she remembered, I saw the light in her eyes dim slightly and her frown deepen.

Lavender's POV

I woke up with a start and pain shot through my body. I blinked a few times, to get rid of the blurrines in my eyes and when I saw Derek and Daniel, I smiled at them. Then I realised that this was not my bedroom and something was going on. Suddenly, I recalled everything that had happened yesterday. I looked around me and realised that I was in a hospital room. My smile slowly turned into a frown and I saw the boys looking at me sympathetically, as if they knew what I was thinking about. Whe I tried to move my arms, I realised I couldn't, because there were too many wires attached to them. I was also still recovering from some sort of drug.

"I'm glad to see you're awake, Miss Hathaway," a voice next to me said. I slowly turned my head to see a doctor watching me, noting my reactions and my blood pressure. When I tried to answer, I realised I couldn't, because there was a tube running down my throat and it hurt too much to even make any sound at all. Daniel realised this and squeezed my hand understandingly.

"Will she be ok?" asked Derek, concern obvious in his voice.

"Of course she will, but the injuries are pretty serious," the doctor replied, trying to keep his voice casual. My stomach twisted at the serious injury part.

"What are these injuries, may I ask?" Daniel said sitting down beside the doctor.

"Well, she has a few cracks in her spine and a few of her ribs are broken. She is also suffering from internal bleeding. Her arm is also fractured in many places. There is a slight dent in her skull," the doctor told us, sadly. Derek's face had gotten paler and paler as he was talking and Daniel had become angrier and angrier.

"I'm gonna kill those girls later," I heard Daniel mumble. I squeezed his hand, hoping to calm him down.

"I'll help you there, mate," Derek said, coming over to stand next to Daniel. For once they actually agreed on something. Usually, they would completely disagree with each other and argue about it for ages, and sometimes, they just ignored each other and refused to speak with each other. It was quite frustrating being in the middle.

"Would you boys mind leaving for a few moments, while I put Lavender to sleep again, so I can pull out the tube in her throat?" the doctor asked quietly, getting out his kit and bringing out a needle. I froze at the sight of this needle and Derek automatically knew what was wrong and came rushing to my side.

"Don't worry Lav. It's not the same, you'll be absolutely fine," he assured me. This was a secret that only Derek knew about: when I was 13, my Dad had died. He had been in a car crash and was immediately brought to hospital. Unfortunately, he was given too many drugs to put him to sleep and he never woke up. This had brought around a fear of all needles and sedatives for me. Daniel and the doctor looked confused and Daniel looked slightly jealous that Derek knew about this and not him. Right at this moment I didn't care. I was too wrapped up in my own feelings. Derek continued to say soothing words to me and I eventually calmed down. Derek quickly spoke to the doctor, telling him briefly about my fear and the doctor understood instantly. He'd had patients like this before and knew how to handle them. Derek turned around and winked at me, before him and Daniel were whisked out of the room. Daniel took one more jealous glance at me before leaving.

The doctor pulled out from a drawer, a little puzzle, which was supposed to distract me, so that I wouldn't expect the needle. It worked. The puzzle was so addictive that I didn't even realise that he had injected it into me until everything had already gone black.

I know this was a pretty crappy chapter, but it's christmas day so I've really rushed this. I promise you, it will get better. Thanks for reading
