sweet caroline. chapter fourteen.
SUMMARY ; when caroline thinks it can't get any worse, it does.

i should've built a home
with a fountain for us
the moment that she told me
that she was in love
——

THE FOLLOWING morning was unusual, to say the least. caroline did not sleep a wink that night, as she wasn't comfortable with her new surroundings, she didn't trust the door was truly locked — she was sure someone had a key to it. anything could've happened during the night, her instincts wouldn't allow her to lose conciseness, going along with those reasons came along her never ending thoughts about negan, meant she would not get to cure any of her exhaustion.

caroline didn't know a single soul at alexandria, they were strangers, she couldn't trust anyone. now, she was left to fend for herself, she was thrown into the exact situation did not want to be in. now, she was forced to go through this change in environment alone with no one by her side. she had no idea as to where negan was, or if she should even care. part of her can't help but hope that all of it was a big misunderstanding, or some sort of sick joke, or maybe michonne was lying to get her to despise negan along with them.

negan had done so much good for caroline, she didn't think it was right for her to believe everything these strangers told her without hearing his side of the story, he had to be given the chance to defend himself. then she could judge, and pick who she thought was telling the truth. though michonne's story had many thought out details, it would've been very hard to come up with what she did, and no matter how much caroline wanted to believe otherwise, there had to have been truth to it. caroline had decided sometime in the night that she wanted to give negan a chance to either defend himself, or at least give a reason as to why he did the things he did all those years ago if they were true.

and if it was all true, caroline would only end up wishing he never found them in the woods that day.

"i want to talk to him." caroline says to the older woman as she approaches her. michonne picks her head up, removing her attention from the book she held in between two hands. it had took caroline a total of fifteen minutes to find the woman, lots of asking around, and receiving skeptical looks from alexandrian's, the exact thing caroline didn't want to have to put up with. rolling her eyes at them, she continued onwards with what she needed to do.

michonne was inside a house, which caroline assumed belonged to her. she had marched straight through the front door after flinging it open, then jogged up the staircase to where her bedroom was held. michonne looked at the girl with raised eyebrows and a slight surprised expression crossed over her face.

"and why is that? you seemed pretty upset last night," michonne asks the blonde, head tilting to the side in a questioning way. caroline puffs out a heavy sigh through her nose, her arms coming up to cross over her chest. "because he needs to be given the chance to speak for himself, i've seen a side of him you haven't. i wanna at least know why he did those things-"

"you think we haven't tried asking him that?" michonne interrupts the girl, her eyebrows furrowing as she places her book down on the dark coloured desk in front of her. "no. but i'm hoping i'll get a different response."

caroline hated how nervous she was to walk through that door. it shouldn't have been like that, she shouldn't have felt that way. it was truly bizarre how short of time ago she was as comfortable as could be with the man, they had established a mutual trusting in one another, and now caroline felt the same way she did a month ago, like negan was a complete stranger all over again.
