Grace's POV

I was in the kitchen heating up what my parents had for dinner when I heard a knock.

Matt must've been here. I went to the door and opened it. He had a suitcase, a pillow and a blanket.

"Hey. Thanks for letting me crash here." I smiled.

"No problem! Do you want so re-heated chicken pot pie? It's not poisoned I promise."

Matt smiled and nodded. "Sure, why not. Haven't eaten all day!"

I took mine out of the microwave and put a slice of chicken pot pie in there for Matt.

"Want me to show you to the guest room upstairs while we wait for our pie?"

He looked at me. "Sure."

"Follow me." I started towards the stairs when all of sudden my mom rushed in.

"Are you Matt? I'm Grace's mom. You can call me Darla if you like." My mom was slowly walking towards us with her hands in her pockets.

"Yeah I'm Matt. Nice to meet you! Oh and I'd like to thank you for letting me stay here I appreciate it."

My mom took her hands out f her pockets and leaned on the railing of the staircase.

"No problem. I wouldn't want you to be all alone at your house. I'm extremely sorry for the accident that just happened with your parents. It must be hard to loose them at such a young age but I know that you can make it through this difficult time of tragedy." Matt smiled.

"Thank you."

I decided to make my way into the conversation.

"I was just going to show Matt to the guest room. Bye mom!" She smiled, showing off her teeth.

"You've got a nice house here Grace! I'm impressed." I turned down the hallway and opened the door to the guest room. It was right next to my room.

"Why thanks Grace!" He laughed as I turned the light switch on and pretended to be a bouncer.

"You got an I.D. on you?" Even more laughing came out. I let him in anyways.

"Thanks for letting me stay here. You have a nice house by the way."

"Anytime! And thanks," I answered.

Matt put his bag on the floor near a window. "Just come to my room to ask me any questions you have. Or if you just want to hang out."

He smiled. "Alight."

I left the room and closed the door behind me. As I was standing there I thought of all the fun adventures that were on their way.

Then I smelled burning.
