James Potter had a giddy smile on his face the whole week, which made Lily Evans feel unsettled.

How was he so happy and carefree when she was missing him so much her soul ached.

Lily would've thought someone was crazy if they told her she would soon enough miss James's embarrassing proclamations of love in the middle of corridors.

"Lils, you're staring." Alice whispered to her friend seated next to her in the library, across from them sat the Marauders all huddled around a piece of paper.

"Oh, right ." Lily replied emotionlessly and Marlene shot Alice a worried look.

The part of Marlene that was fiercely protective of her friends hated August and all the drama she bought along with her but at the same time she had to remind herself that she barely even knew the girl and that it was unfair to dislike her for something James was responsible for.

"Look, Lils, tomorrow's your Hogsmeade date with James. Charm him, he's probably not even over you."

"He looks pretty over me, Marls."

"Yeah, because he got laid."

"What?" Alice slammed her palms onto the table in shock before sheepishly sinking down in her chair due to the noise attracting the attention of students milling around in the library.

"I heard from Sirius, apparently James Potter's new bird is quite promiscuous."

"Marls, don't call her promiscuous." Alice defended.

"What? I'm just saying. Rumor has it they did it even before they got together, summer fling of sorts."

"Who told you that?" Lily asked the brunette.

"Well, I heard from Winona Rivers, the gossip that she is, who heard from Zachary Fletcher, who heard from the Prewett twins who apparently overheard it from Peter."

"So you think it might just be sex?" Alice whispered

"Well I mean..." Marlene said "She's French."

"Don't stereotype Marlene." Lily scolded her best friend. "Who are we to make assumptions about someone's relationship."

"Lils, I'm just observing that she has to be dropdead gorgeous for James to be so enamored with her, and he wasn't exactly getting it when he was obsessed with you. Teenage boys have needs."

"That's gross." Alice scrunched up her nose.

"You think I still have a chance?" Lily asked unsure, biting her lip slightly.

"You were never out of the running." Marlene smiled.

I'm going absolutely mental not seeing you.

I hope your week has been good and that you haven't missed me too terribly, and haven't found yourself a much handsomer Veela boyfriend. Who am I kidding? You won't find someone hotter than me.

Unfortunately I have to stay in this weekend for head boy duties and such. I'm hoping that you'll spare some time for me in your busy schedule for the weekend after that.
