The next morning, Joe was almost apprehensive to go downstairs for breakfast. What his parents would say he didn't even want to think about. He felt a little bit sick. Each of the wooden steps he took down to the kitchen seemed to make his heart heavier. Joe didn't look at his parents as he sat down and wordlessly grabbed a piece of toast.
His mother Clarence cleared her throat. "Joe. We saw all of that. On TV."
Joe felt his heart crumbling to a little ball.
"And we've talked about this for a long time last night.", his mother continued. "I think we have seriously underestimated just how much passion you have for music. You really mean it, and we don't think there is much we can do to stop you anyway."
He couldn't believe his ears. Was he still dreaming? "Mum?", he said weakly, now looking at her for the first time that morning.
"We have agreed to pay part of your singing lessons."
Joe's jaw dropped open, and stayed there. He stared at his father.
"Don't think I have changed my mind about that "profession". But it was a really heartfelt performance... Still, how are you going to make any money with that?"
Taking a deep breath, Joe smiled and said, "I don't know yet. But I'll show you."
