He stared harder at the screen, the room filling with silence. Quinn stayed still like stone. One move, and he may find out that I'm somehow a red. A red aura.
She held her breath as he rebooted the computer, cursing when he found her test results. "Huh," he looked at her, then smiled. "Congrats,"
Quinn's eyes snapped to the results, the words Congrats, you're BLACK! shouted in her face. Was she actually brown, or was that just the color Uria chose to change it to?
"Well, congratulations, I will be explaining to you what jobs you have, and how long until you earn your job." he turned towards me.
"So there's three jobs for you. One, work for the government. Two you could become apart of the GSO, or three you could become one of the border patrollers." Quinn thought hard. Those were important jobs.
"What's GSO stand for?" she asked. Her professor shrugged like it was no big deal. "Government Standard Officials."
"I could be part of the government officials? Seriously?" she was surprised. She could be the people who raid her streets, be in charge of public execution, beating people in the streets, and all the other discusting things they do. She could be one of them.
Bile filled her mouth. "How long do I have to figure out what job I'd like to start an internship for?" she gritted her teeth. "Five months, until then I'd keep your eyes open for opportunities."
He walked her out the door, and handed her back to Uria. I studied her. She seemed energized, happy even. Quietly the professor talked to her about Quinn's results, any statements he had about her, while she stood there.
"Alright Quinn, follow me and I will accompany you home." she briskly walked with Quinn following by her side, trying to keep up.
The questions flew out of her mouth before Quinn could stop them. "What happened? Was my results red, and you miraculously changed it? Were you caught? Am I in trouble?"
"Hush!" she shouted, pulling her along. "I need you to shut up and lead the way to your house, we have to discuss this with your parent." Quinn quietly led Uria, trying to keep her mouth shut.
When they reached her small apartment, Quinn opened the door and reluctantly let Uria in. "She's in the kitchen, most likely." Uria nodded, shut the door, and walked into the kitchen. Quinn's mom set down the cloth she was using, and confusion painted her face. "Hello?"
Uria smiled kindly. "Hello Mrs. Amherst, it's Uria, the woman you talked to on the phone. I am here to discuss what we talked about with Quinn's aura." Her voice lowered as she brought up Quinn.
Her mom's face darkened and she faced Quinn. "Honey, go find Link and be back in a few hours, I have some things to discuss."
"Wait- you guys know each other?" Quinn's voice stayed low. "Go. Now." Her mom's voice had strong authority and something else she couldn't put her finger on. She obeyed, like she does to everybody.
"See you in a little bit," she muttered, slamming the door and heading to the creek where Link usually had their lunch waiting for them everyday.

When she made it to the creek, she found Link already there, and when he saw her his smile brightened. "Hey Quinnie."
"Hey," was all she could manage, without letting the whole day run out of her mouth. His eyes clouded with concern.
"What happened?" he quickly got up, staring at her. She looked away and walked over to the picnic set up for them two. Uria's words flashed through her mind. Tell no one.
She huffed. Link isn't no one though. He's my best friend. Quinn's heart was in two, one part telling her to keep her aura a secret, the other wanting to tell Link. He sat next to her, and pulled her onto the blanket on the ground.
"You can tell me," his eyes searched her face, and she huffed, giving up. Maybe it's best to tell him.
