It was a dark, cold evening.

You were sitting on a soft, maroon-colored couch, wrapped up in a snow white blanket, holding a lukewarm cup of what could only be chocolate milk. You don't remember ever setting foot on this couch, nor getting this cup of milk or blanket, but you didn't want to get up any time soon. Besides, chocolate milk was your favorite. Or was it? You couldn't remember, since you liked all the types. Once, you recall you asked your dad if chocolate milk came from a brown cow, and he laughed. Your mom was there too, and she called you an idiot. Then they started arguing. You hated when they argued, because your mom was very cruel to your dad, and told him that he was just as useless as you were. Even though your dad told you you were the best thing that happened to him, and you thought your dad was the best person in the world..

Thunder collided with the raging sea over and over outside, white flashes filling the large living room window, as you watched the waves bob up and down at a leisurely pace, disturbed by the occasional flash of light sent from the charcoal clouds above. Entranced by the calls of nature, you didn't hear someone rush into the room and call your name. So when you felt a cold hand tap your shoulder, you jumped, almost dropping your milk. You looked over at the figure, a tall, handsome man with a butler's suit on, holding a candle in one hand. He grabbed your hand, then pulled you out of your comforting blanket. At least you still has your dragon costume on, it was really comfy. He kept saying things you couldn't understand, so you just looked down the dark, lengthy hallway you were going down.

Even when walking at the fast pace you were you were going at, the hallway seemed to drag on forever. Suddenly, you stopped, the man having a nervous look on his face. You just stood there, taking this time to observe the hallway. Thanks to the candle, a good portion of the hallway in front of you was lit. Expensive paintings, priceless heirlooms, and neatly-placed armor stands could be seen. But behind you, you felt an ominous presence, like something was watching you from the shadows. Slowly, you turned you head. It seemed like nothing was there, but if you squinted enough, you could make out a sculpted shape, standing in the dark part of the hallway. You stared at it, tugging on the butler's cuff. The butler turned around, just as lighting flashed again, making a fraction of the hallway a moonlight blue, revealing the figure in the shadows.

A 7-foot creature with a midnight black suit with a white shirt and cuffs, tinted-yellow skin and golden short locks, and a disturbingly perfect smile, met with red, puffy eyes. The butler was slowly backing away, while you stared back at the lemon as your hand slipped out of his grip, locking eyes with it as it seemed to draw ever closer, until it was only 6 feet away. The lemon being's smile looked like it grew as it reached out its gloved hand to you. You didn't want to run because you were intrigued, but your mother told you to never go with strange people. And this lemon man was looking especially strange. Possibly noticing your hesitation, the man knelt down to your height, but was still a bit taller than you, considering you were pretty short.

"It is alright, my child. I have not come to hurt you." He spoke in a deep, demonic, and slightly hoarse voice. Yet the way he let every word roll off his tongue, it gave his words a softness, a type of warm and inviting tone that made you want to trust him. You gingerly put both of your small hands in his one, causing him to smile heartily, none of his scary teeth showing. He examined your outfit carefully, running his hand over the dark grey linen of the left ear that was lazily stitched. "You look like a person who takes interest in mythical creatures. I may have something for you.." He gently clasped his other hand on top of the stack, then closed his eyes. As soon as he opened them, you could feel the cold, smooth surface of glass under your palm. Uncovering both your hands, you could see a small potion bottle resting in the middle of the lemon man's hand. A sparkling solution of azure, purple, and orchid was swirling inside, a starry night sky captured in such a small bottle. Amazed, you grabbed the bottle, while he smiled at your curiosity.

"It's a magical potion. If you drink it, then maybe, just maybe.." The man looked around dramatically, then whispered "...you could be a dragon." Those last words he whispered made you very excited. You've always loved magical animals, but dragons would forever be your favorite! And to ever be able to get so close to being one was a risk you were willing to take! Quickly, you downed the small portion of potion. It tasted surprisingly good, like all the juices of sweet, ripe fruits mixed into one small drink. After you finished the liquid, you wiped your mouth, waiting for the side effects to kick in. The lemon man giggled, ruffling the hair under your dragon hoodie. "Now, the potion may have minor side effects, but you'll no doubt be able to breathe fire!" You were a bit confused when he said side effects, but you didn't really care, being too focused on waiting to become a dragon. Besides, you're not even sure what that word meant.

Suddenly, you felt the urge to sneeze. You let out a small 'atchoo', setting a small blaze to the carpet. Your eyes twinkled, the periwinkle wisp dancing to the symphony of the cold hallway draft. Then, it dawned on you. You had just breathed- well sneezed- fire! You squealed, jumping up and down in place as the lemon man chuckled at your antics. "That's not the only surprise either." He pushed off your dragon hood, revealing two little cat ears. You just had this dopey smile on your face as he pet your head, purring quietly, while your tiny wings flapped and your tail whipped around. This wasn't quite what you were wanting, but it didn't take away from any excitement you had at all. You were a cat and a dragon, and that was even cooler! Not only did you have an aspect of a mythical creature you loved, but you were also your own mythical creature!

"Now, I know it didn't work out quite as anticipated, but-" You ran up to the lemon man, giving him a big hug. The lemon man seemed a bit taken aback, but eventually wrapped his arms around you. "You're welcome, my child." He said, giving you another one of his warm smiles. This man reminded you a lot of your dad. But then, a bang was heard on the door. You backed away, wondering who could be knocking at the door at such a late time. Just then, the lemon man grabbed both your shoulders, a frantic tone in his voice. "Now, I know this may seem sudden, but I need you to do a favor for me now." You nodded really fast, wanting to pay him back for making your one dream come true, other than an endless supply of chocolate milk. He sighed and let go of you, a serious look replacing his once calm one. "I'm going to take you out of this mansion, and no matter what, we may never be able to come back." Wait- huh? Leave? But this was your home, you should be able to stay here. And what about you mom and dad? Wouldn't they miss you if you didn't come back? Seeing the sadness in your face, the lemon man grabbed both your hands, his expression now softer. "I know you must be sad, leaving your mom and dad like this. But there are very, very bad people, and they don't like kids who are different. So I need to take you somewhere safe until they leave, okay?"

Before you could object, or even agree, the door on the other side of the hallway was burst open, and three men ran in, charging at you and the lemon man. The lemon man swept you off your feet, hoisted you over his shoulder, and ran through the door on the other side of the hall. Probably the one he came through, since while it's usually locked, the door was wide open. Heavy rain hit your face as the lemon man suddenly stopped. Observing your surroundings, you could see a large town, although it looked really small from here. The mansion you lived in was perched up on a hill, and the way down was a straight path through the forest, meaning you could either get lost easily, or you could be found easily. Without hesitation, he ran down the beaten up path, then men now not far behind. You watched all three of them chase after you, shouting big words you couldn't understand, and other words that your dad told you you could never say. As you heard the lemon man mumble something else, your eyelids started to feel really heavy. As you fell asleep, you hear him mutter something before all went black and silent.

"Good luck, my child. I love you."
