(Chapter 10)
Flashback
December 10th, 2016
Headlights streamed through the window and across the living room wall, I met them at the front door. Jason came in first, I scanned his face, making harsh eye contact before wrapping Caleb in my arms."Where were you guys? I was worried." Jason kicked his boots off, they hit the wall with a thud. I tried not to flinch, aware of my sons gaze.
"Daddy took me driving!" My heart dropped. I knew Jason had been drinking, I'd handed him beer after beer until we got into an argument. I went upstairs to grab my phone and when I came back down, the boys were gone. "Mommy I'm tired, I'm going to go to bed." He was very self sufficient. He'd bathed himself and changed into pajamas earlier in the night.
"I love you, sweet dreams." He wrapped his tiny arms around my stomach and hurried up to his room.
"We're you really driving with him after you'd been drinking?" I stormed after Jason into the living room, my voice low and quiet.
"Stop babying him." He replied, his stance strong snd intimidating.
"It's not babying Jason, it's illegal."
"You're a crazy bitch." He muttered. My body recoiled at the sight of the hatred in his face. My own rage was rising, the resentment I'd pushed down for so long was beginning to surface.
"Then let me go, divorce me!" I screamed at Jason, angrier than ever.
"You know I'll never let that happen." His voice was steady.
"It won't be up to you Jason!" I yelled. "The courts will decide." My teeth gritted as I turned around, his arm came around my waist from behind.
Legs. I have to move my legs. Some internal force spins me around, I drop my purse. Jason is standing in front of me, his whiskey filled breath blowing on my face. His hand feathered my shoulder and he moved my hair away from my neck. I squeeze my eyes shut as his hands begin to trace across my skin, up to my shoulder. He slowly runs his fingers across my collar bones and a shudder creeps down my spine.
"Get away from me." I demanded.
"What? What did you say to me?" His voice was domineering.
I tried to pull away but his grip was so tight, I didn't even budge. He spins me but my eyes are still closed, I was too scared to look at him. His hands dug into my shoulders as he pushed me towards the bed. I tried fighting him off of me, but it was useless. My back meets the bed and I frantically scoot back towards the headboard, trying to get away from him.
"Jason stop," I begged, tears streaking down my temples and into my hair.
He ignores my pleads and grabs my ankle, yanking me until I'm beneath him. His body comes down against mine and he takes me wrists with one hand, pressing the above my head against the mattress.
My fear folded in on itself and I became diluted with rage, hatred rips through me and I begin to scream. Caleb was most likely asleep by now, but he usually didn't come down if he heard us fighting. I willed for him to stay in his room.
Jason attempted to muffle my yells with his lips, warm pressure pushed against my mouth. I bit down on his lip, going into full fight mode. Adrenaline coursed through my veins until his forehead came crashing down against mine. In an instant, the pain faded as a blanket of darkness rolled over my eyes and consumed me.
