We never painted by the numbers, baby
But we were making it count
You know the greatest loves of all time are over now

August Willams had never considered herself to be desperate.
Sure, she had many traits that she didn't particularly like and could name in a heartbeat.
For starters she was a pushover, she was quite self-absorbed, impulsive, paranoid. But never had she been desperate.
Now she was. She was desperate for James Potter to visit her and tell her that he wasn't avoiding her, he probably wasn't but her severe abandonment issues made the overthinker in her come out.
Did he want to break up with her?
Did he find someone else.
Of course not, Remus is ill, you selfish prat.
"Stop worrying at your bottom lip or you'll bite it open." Sadie scolded her.
It was the Saturday James was supposed to visit but he had canceled because Remus was poorly.
She admired James's selflessness, a trait she had never quite adopted because in her household you simply couldn't afford that.
"Let's go in here." Sadie gestured to the lovely little boutique that the girls wasted too much money in.
"Not today Sadie, I can't bear to look at lingerie I can't afford." Lori sighed dramatically.
"Lori, your dad's the best reporter in France." August deadpanned.
"Besides", Sadie wiggled her eyebrows suggestively "I need a set for my date with Carla, and August needs something to blow James's socks off."
"Fine, I don't want to go in because I'm lonely and bitter."
"Don't be sad, Lori." August laughed and dragged her friend into the store.
"What do you think James is planning for your birthday?" Sadie asked as they scanned the racks for something promising.
"Not sure, I'm secretly hoping he takes me away on some romantic getaway to Venice."
"He could, isn't his family like loaded." Sadie said while examining a silver set decorated with sequins.
"That's nice." August pointed, "They are but they're very humble about it. Knowing James he'll probably load me on a broomstick or something."
Lori snorted, "Never thought we'd see the day where August, queen of luxury and 'I refuse to wear anything that's not silk' settles for a broomstick ride on her seventeenth birthday."
"Character development." August winked.
"Look, Augie, this will knock his socks off." Lori held up the tiniest pieces of sheer red fabric decorated with small flowers.
"If you don't buy it, I call second dibs." Sadie exclaimed.

James Potter was glad to finally walk out of the infirmary late Saturday afternoon.
Moony had been grumpier than usual on Friday night and Madam Promfrey insisted that he stayed in bedrest for the rest of the day.
Lying still and not doing anything only made him think about what he could be doing.
He could be causing havoc with Sirius, sneaking into the kitchens with Peter, bugging Lily to help him write his Potions essay. And he could go see August.
