Prologue

Grief. An unusual, almost indescribable feeling. That is what I felt after my body became one. What was, a couple of seconds ago, my deteriorating skin, turn back into what I knew felt like me. I remember... it looked like dust or ash, so faint but the feeling of being blown away by the wind hurt less than what laid in front of me on the ground. I had came back to the same horrific moment I was before but without the body that laid before me....

A newlywed couple, that's what Vision and I were. We wanted something more quiet than New York, so we choose New Jersey....not sure how we came to that decision... but we did, in Westview, NJ.  Vision isn't the most...human-like being but he is able to morph into one without anyone batting an eye. Driving down the road, everyone is very neighborly, waving to the new couple in this small town. We wanted a house and it was easy to get, one twirl of my finger and it became our very own house, no one questions.

We are not like other couples, so we have to do our best to fit, therefore, I have to blend into the new position of a housewife and Vision works Computational Services...sort of his thing. He walks in reading a newspaper, distracting me from my dish cleaning. I accidentally make the plate fly and hit his head but he doesn't flinch one bit. I wasn't worried, his head isn't made of flesh, sort of indestructible metal...if you will.

"My wife and her flying saucers" he snickers. "My husband and his indestructible head." I respond with a smile. Something keeps catching my eye...it shouldn't be there, I don't think? I get distracted as I walk over to the fridge and realize there is nothing to eat, I look at Vision judgingly. "What? I can't help I wasn't made to eat food, it'll get stuck in and everything will be all weirdy"

"Right, of course we wouldn't want that to happen now would we?" I look at him with a big smile on my face. "What are you wearing by the way?" he looks me up and down. "Well, I have to be a housewife, so I have to look the part." He smiles, as understanding as he can be. As I walk over to him to give him a kiss goodbye, he looks past me, and asks "What is that on the calendar?"

Realizing he is looking in the direction I was a couple minutes ago, I get reminded of the same thing, I have no idea where this "heart" came from or way it's on today's date (August 23rd). Why would we even need to abbreviate such a thing? Vision is an A.I and I can make objects float, so why would this be needed to remind us of an event? I didn't put this here, where did it come from?  Vision finds this just as weird and confusing as I do but brushes it off and hurries to work. Jumping out of my thoughts I run to him and say "Don't forget!" he insists "I haven't!" I put a circle around my face insinuating his robotic features. "Oh right!" little effects make his face change from synthetic robot to a blue eyed blonde. Love them both the same. "Have a good day dear!" he exclaims.

As he leaves, I go check the calendar one more time, my head tilts in confusion. No idea where this could've come from. I know for certain...it's fine, one weird hiccup, it doesn't matter. I have everything under control.

Suddenly, I hear someone knocking. I rush over wondering who could be knocking on our door, we just moved in and haven't talk to anyone. Opening the door, I am rushed by a woman who is my height, in a flannel like dress with a belt in the middle. Greeting me with a very loud and ambitious voice, she hands me a welcoming gift. "Oh! Hello dear, I'm Agnes, your neighbor to the right, my right not yours. Forgive me for not stopping by, my mother-in-law was in town, so I wasn't." She hands me the gift and starts entering my home. "What's your name and most importantly, how's your bridge game hun?" I hold out my hand and introduce myself, "I'm Wanda!"

She takes it and with the biggest smile says "Wanda! Charmed!" She starts to look around my home, noticing all of my furniture is already set up. "You settled in fast, did you use a moving company?" I ironically respond, "Well, these boxes don't move themselves." She laughs it off and I know I'm safe... of course I am. "What's a single gal like you roaming around this big house?" Quick to remind her, "Oh no, I am not single! He will be back soon, we are going to celebrate a special occasion."

"Is it someones birthday?" She starts the round of questions guessing. "Not birthday."

"It's not a holiday isn't?" for some reason, I don't even know what it is. We've never had something like this before, it'll come to me or she'll help bring it up.

"An anniversary then?" Suddenly, it makes so much sense, an anniversary! We are having an anniversary together. "Yes! YES! It's our anniversary!" I exclaim, so happy she resolved my confusion.

"Oh how marvelous! How many years?" Again, I'm at a loss, I'm not sure but I quickly answer. "Well it feels like we've always been together."

"Oh lucky gal, the only way Ralph would remember our anniversary was if there was a beer named June 2nd."

"So what do you have planned?" How have I not thought about this? It's on the calendar so I must have thought about at least once. I can tell she sees my confusion but she seems willing to help. "Oh don't worry! I can go grab this magazine and we can start planning! Oh, this is gonna be a gas!"

I sit there in excitement, Agnes is going to help me plan my anniversary! It is going to be amazing. She seems cheery and flamboyant, perfect for planning an occasion like this. And I think I have made a helpful friend. But of course I did, right?
