McGonagall led them into her office and gestured for them to take the seats opposite her desk. Both teens did so, though grudgingly. Neither reveled at the thought of being remotely near each other. "Now," McGonagall started, "I understand that the both of you are not very fond of each other, correct?"
Remus scoffed lightly and Leah spoke up in defense of herself, "He's being insufferable just because in- "
"Oh, for goodness sake, you landed me in the Hospital Wing. You overrea- "
"Overreacted?" Leah practically screeched- still mindful of the Professor watching them both carefully.
"Arguments will not be necessary, Ms. Bennet. Mr. Lupin. I was merely curious. And since you are both -yes both Ms. Bennet- taking responsibility for this prank, both will be punished effectively." Minerva paused slightly, taking in their apprehensive faces. She smirked. Remembering the bet against Dumbledore that she currently held concerning the two students, she made up her mind about the punishment. Really, she thought, this didn't count as cheating, just a small nudge towards 10 galleons.
"You will both serve detention Thursday evening. No arguments."
Both students nodded- though hesitantly. They got up and walked towards the exit. "Oh and Ms. Bennet, Mr. Lupin." Professor McGonagall called out. Leah and Remus paused at the door. "You are both one of my smartest students. Please refrain from any future prank playing."
They nodded once more and left in silence.
Minerva McGonagall leaned back in her seat and clasped her hands together with a sigh. 'Prepare to lose Albus', she thought.
...
When Thursday rolled around, Leah was already in a very bad mood.
She hadn't been able to concentrate all day due to the glares in the side of her head from a certain scarred Gryffindor. But being the level-headed person she -usually- is, she simply went back to squeezing pus out of the Bubotuber plants.
Defence Against the Dark Arts had yet another new teacher introduced as Professor Dane. Professor Dane looked to be in about his 60's and was constantly squinting, even through thick-rimmed glasses. Most students had seen his short-sightedness as an opportunity to sleep in his class but students like Leah Bennet and Remus Lupin saw it as a chance to glare at each other and then turn their attention back to how to use the Confundus Charm as a defense spell. Halfway through the lesson, Leah leaned over to Remus' desk and whispered quietly, "I'd Confundus you, but I'm not sure how much difference it would make."
A squeak of indignance came from Remus' mouth, but before he could retort, he was called on to answer question 36 of Sixth Year: Defense Spells! Worksheet.
Remus and Leah did not share anymore classes that day so neither could throw insults at each other that everyone rolled their eyes at but secretly enjoyed a lot. Seeing the Perfect Prefect boy from Gryffindor fight with the Golden Girl of Hufflepuff, was, quite simply put: entertaining.
Not that either teen would openly admit to it.
...
"Now I trust that if I leave you here, neither of you will feel the need to injure, or in any way harm each other, correct?"
Professor McGonagall stood in front of Leah Bennet and Remus Lupin with a stern look on her face. She pointed at the two mops and buckets at her feet and then at the corridor of rusty trophies.
Leah's face dropped slightly. It was going to take them all night to wash half of these. But before she could even think to protest, McGonagall swept out of the room. "Great." Remus sighed. He picked up a mop and sat down with the nearest trophy.
