Warning: I will be talking about/saying/writing dirty shit. 18+ content, so don't report. Just go off somewhere else <3
I am not a professional in anyway, I am just compiling what I personally do in order to help others figure out their style and what they're good at. This is just advice and suggestions. In no means do you have to take what I say as law.COVER PHOTO FROM
"XY MAGAZINE" (1997)So, for those of you who don't know me, or have been skipping around (as if I have like 50 chapters 🤦♀️), I'm Luca. I use the name Luca, a gender neutral name, because I am horribly afraid of my friends finding me on here. Read any of my content to figure out what I mean—I write about of sex. I'm also pretty generally confused about my gender and sexuality (and am not even close to out of the closet amongst peers).
The fact that I had to hide a lot of what I feel and think probably made me go a little crazy, and seek out gratification through other means. I'm also pretty curious, and started having sex at a young age. In fact, I joined wattpad like two months after I first had sex at 14. I am OLD now. If 20 is old.
Anyways, here is where I will delve into my thought processes when writing smut or sex scenes (which I find to be two distinct types of writing).
First, my distinction here is—in essence—the literary equivalent of what porn vs. erotica is (videography vs. written word). Smut, or at least how I define it, is written porn (whether it be OC or fanfiction). Sex scenes are usually not as detailed, more focused on foreplay, and end with some ambiguous bullshit right before the act. They're meant to be poetic, or consumed by a broad audience. You know when you're sitting there thinking, "Are they? Oh, well next scene they wake up naked in bed." That's a sex scene. !Not to say there is anything wrong with that! But, know your story and your audience. If I were to write a book to be consumed by older adults (30+) I probably wouldn't write:
"I ran my tongue from the base of his dick to the tip, swirling it around like an ice cream cone."
That's something I would write for new adults (18-25). I would write something more like this for older adults:
"I looked up into his eyes as I got down on my knees and unzipped his pants. He ran his hand through my hair and sucked air sharply through his teeth. He didn't pull it, or press my head, but caressed my hair as he held eye contact."
Naturally, these are shitty quick examples. As you can see, the difference is most in the mindset. Sex is versatile, so why shouldn't I be in my writing! And this is a generalization. There's definitely going to be books for older adults with KINKY ASS SHIT, but they normally are going to chose specific books that are basically Hentai plots like 50 Shades. (They know exactly what you're getting, raunchy porn with plot). So when you're reading a book and there's only one sex scene where it's just not more artistic than raunchy, it'll be a turn off. But! I'll help you out so your smut or sex scenes can sound horrifyingly hot or be sexy but tasteful.
Smut
I find that the key to writing really good smut is to be as nasty as possible. Take your inner slut (yes, we are reclaiming this word and I belong to the anime streets) and fuck the shit out of them. Find those scenes when you're reading smut that make you put your phone down and scream internally, giggle maniacally, or take a lap. You know the ones I'm talking about. Be your most disgusting self. If you aren't questioning your sanity and considering chugging holy water after, you aren't getting deep enough. A lot of what writing—and what your readers really enjoy—is that introspection. If you enjoy writing it, if you enjoy sex or watching porn or reading smut, it will be clear in your writing.
