In the United States, there are no firm estimates on how many LGBTQ people make up the ranks of the homeless. Some studies have said it's as high as 17%. For youths, the number may be as high as 40% of the youth homeless population. Many were thrown out of their own homes because of their sexual orientation.
I am a straight male. I've been married 33 years, and have 3 wonderful adult children. I can't even imagine a parent throwing a child out of their how, or disowning them, because of how they love.
