Bertha-
As we walked out, I accidentally rammed into a thin girl. She stared at me, eyes like ice. Her voice was like liquid venom.
“Watch it, Soc Wannabe.” She flipped her thick black hair, and was just about to sashay off, when Lottie had a comeback.
“Whoops. Sorry Regina, she most not of seen you under all that makeup.” Lottie had her signature smirk on her face. Then, she started walking away.
“Chill out, Frankie.” Regina said, nicer, with a sweet smile on her face. Frankie…. Interesting. Whatever it meant, Lottie was blazing mad.
Teeth tightly clenched, “Are you coming?” She mumbled to Elizabeth and I. I dragged Elizabeth along besides me.
“Thought so.” Regina simply smiled, and then turned away, and sashayed away, as I suspected she would.
“You should have kicked her snotty little ass.” Elizabeth muttered. I nodded. I had no clue who that was. Or why she called her Frankie, I decided it would be better not to ask.
“It was very tempting. Believe me.” Lottie responded, her face still a little red. Fists were still rolled up in little balls.
“That was Regina. She thinks she is the queen of the school. Let me tell you, she certainly is not!” It seems Elizabeth disliked her with a passion too.
She continued,” She was a nobody up until this year. I don’t even think she hit puberty until like she was 15. That’s a year and half younger than what I am now. All since she got pretty, she thinks she is better than us all. That dirty little…..” She trailed off, leaving us to our imaginations to try to figure out what she was going to say.
“Why did she call me a wannabe Soc?” I questioned, just one of the many one my mind.
“I don’t know. You look pretty Soc-y to me.” Lottie sassed. She was still upset (or pouting) about Regina. I suppose I did.
“I don’t know, but there’s the DX. Let’s go in.” She stopped at what looked like your typical gas station.
“Hey Soda.” Elizabeth said, right as we walked in. He rolled out from under of a totally tough car, hands full of car grease.
“Hey babe.” He got up, wiping his hands on his shirt, then planting a kiss on her lips, causing instant jealousy to sweep over me. I just couldn’t help myself.
“Hey Lottie, Ponyboy got home awhile ago” He greeted her, she mumbled in return then went of to find him, “Hey Bertha.” He smiled at me.
“Hi-” I was cut off by another boy ramming into Soda, arm around him, “Is this the lucky woman?”
“Yeah Steve. This is Elizabeth.” Soda smiled, proud.
“Well, How do you do, ‘Lizabeth.” Steve gave her a bow. I stifled a giggle.
“And who might this lovely lady be?” He turned to me. I tried to keep my face from turning red, no luck.
“That’s Bertha. And she is going to be your date for the Spring Fling, which is on this Friday. We are going, Right Soda?” She didn’t even ask him yet? I found that strange. Maybe she just assumed he would go with her. Whatever.
“Probably. Do we have to work on Friday?” Soda asked, not really fazed that she made plans without him.
“Yeah, but like at ten to eleven though. We can still go to the dance, just have to leave early.” Steve responded. I nodded.
“Oh. That sucks. You are still coming though with me.” She didn’t say it as a question, that was a command. Elizabeth was a tad on the control freak girlfriend. I would never mention this to her, but you have to admit that was weird?
“Well, Our shift’s over. So, wanna go to my house?” Soda asked. Elizabeth smiled, of course she did. I nodded, sure. It’s not like I had anything better to do.
“Darry, We aren’t screwing around. We actually read the book.” I heard Ponyboy say to someone named Darry.
‘Hey! I tried to.” Lottie’s very distinctive voice called out.
We walked in, Soda and Steve calling hello.
“Hey Guys.” A ripped attractive guy responded casually. Then he noticed us, his icy eyes widen with surprise.
“Darry, this is Elizabeth, my girlfriend, and Bertha.” Soda introduced.
“Hi.” I said, sitting next to Steve on the couch. “Nice to meet you.” This was their brother/guardian? What happen to their parents? Another question was, why were they all good-looking? Like, damn.
“So Bertha, I haven’t seen you around before. Ya new here?” Steve asked me.
I nodded, “Yeah. From Oklahoma City. I am here living with my cousin for now.”
“Ahh, the big city. Never been there.” He responded, casually laying his arm behind me. I nearly squealed. He was cute. Elizabeth smirked at me. I tried not to blush. The Phone rang, Darry picked it up. “’Lo? Yeah. Coming.”
He hung up, turned to us, “Gotta go. Leaky roof. See ya later. Nice meeting you two.” He gave Soda what looked like a warning look. Then rushed out.
“What was that look for?” Elizabeth giggled, knowing what.
“Oh, he just doesn’t want us to be fooling around.” Soda winked. Elizabeth simply rolled on top of him and started kissing him. She ran her fingers through his hair.
“Oh my god, Get a room!” Lottie gasped. God Bless you, Lottie. The two love birds parted, and were both smiling ear to ear.
“Like the two of you haven’t.” Elizabeth teased. Lottie was trying to think of a good comback, but she couldn’t. It was the first time I think any of us have seen her with a loss of words. Ponyboy was beat red.
“Aww. Leave the two alone.” Soda said, but with a smile forming more and more with every word.
After a few more teasings of Lottie and Ponyboy, and thankfully no awkward make out sessions, Elizabeth and I soon left.
“That was fun.” She giggled. I nodded. “Steve and you really seemed to hit it off.”
“Yeah. I like him.” I muttered.
“The dance is going to be awesome!”
I hope so.
A/N:
So this chapter sucks. The next one is the dance, and that should be a lot better! Also, I have a question: Who is your favorite girl so far? Thanks for reading!
