"Are you packing this?" Jade my best friend asks. Jade was the best-best friend I could ask for. I liked to stay under the radar, avoiding unnecessary confrontations. My bestie on the other hand was bold and up front. We had that type of bond that we would always be each other's closest friends. Sitting with her in my room packing up my last bags I begin to realize how much I'm going to miss having her by side.
"Yeah sure!" I answer back. My stereo blares my favourite tunes as we sift through all my belongs and decide what will accompany me on this new journey.

"JOEY!!" My mom's voice can be faintly heard over the stereo.
"YES!!" I respond back.
Nothing...
Of course she's not going to answer me back. Huffing I get up and walk downstairs. As I get closer to the kitchen I overhear my mom on the phone.

"Well, that's not your problem anymore Nick..."
I hear my mom say. Dad? He hasn't called in weeks. I tap on the door frame not wanting to hear anymore of there conversations. My mom turns around and let's out a sigh of relief.

"I'm passing you to Joey." She says before passing me the phone. I hold it to my ear.

"Dad?" I say in a questioning tone.

" Josephine, how are you?" He says in a monotone voice.

"Good, your self?" I respond back

"Very good ,are you're excited to be attending your new school?"

"I mean I guess." I say with some doubt in my voice.
My father picks up on it saying.
"You don't sound excited, this is a marvellous opportunity!"

"Yeah I mean it's just I'll miss my school and friends here." I say in a calm voice not wanting to escalate the situation.

"That place is hardly a school and those friends won't bring you success, Josephine."

"Success isn't everything ,dad."

"You should be more grateful."

"I am! I'm going per your request let's not forget ."

"That doesn't-" he was cut of by what sounds like a opening door.I hear a mans voice on the other end before my dad sighs.
"I have to be going, I'll speak with you soon. Goodbye."

Before I even get the chance to say bye back he hangs up. I hand the phone back to my mom and take a sit a a stool by the kitchen island.

"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you tomorrow?" My mom asks. Both mom and I have an unspoken agreement to not speak of or mention topics involving my father. I don't mind this rule, the thought of opening those old wounds is enough to put me in a sour mood.

"No need ,don't want to draw any unneeded attention to myself." Already aware of the large audience I'm sure to attract.

"Plus you have a big work meeting tomorrow."
I add to reassure my mom further. I nod to my mom before going back upstairs to finish packing.

~~
After several hours of packing and chatting my friends slowly started leaving. I'm left  with my one and only , Jade.
"So how you feeling?" Jade asks well stuffing a mouthful of popcorn in her mouth her eyes never leaving the tv.
"Good, good ,I feel good" I say with a forced smile. Jade clearly doesn't buy it because she shifts her gaze to me. We were watching her favourite movie Legally Blonde, which means she's very worried.
"Come on, I know you better then that." She says raising her brows.
I sigh giving in knowing she'll keep pushing.
"It's just a big change, and everyone is going to be treating me like I'm a peasant, you know?"
She nods in agreement.
"I would just tell them who I am, I mean come on your the daughter of the freaking COO of one of the biggest car companies !"she shouts waving her hands in the air.
