Chapter 6 (Caden's POV)
I walked into the rink and paid the fee to get into the game. As the cold from the rink caressed my bare arms, I searched for my usual seat that was surrounded by the rest of the guys girlfriends and/or friends with benefits. I put my bag on the seat next to me and the girls all gave me crazy looks.
"I'm saving it for someone important. You'll see and you'll freak. I know it," I told them grinning.
"Who is it?" I heard from every different direction.
"Yeah Cade, who is it?" Taylor said from behind the group of girls.
"Oh my God! Taylor!” also came from every girl sitting in the 8 foot radius.
“Hey guys!” she exclaimed, hugging all of them. She took her seat next to me, Kalle, my other best friend on my other side. “How have ya’ll been? She questioned, he southern accent coming into play.
“Do you really have a southern accent?” one of the girls I didn’t care to know questioned.
“No. It’s just fun to use. That’s all,” she answered.
“AND NOW, PLEASE WELCOME YOUR VERY OWN THREE RIVERS TYPHOONS!” the announcer came over the loud speakers, deafening the entire audience. “And their opponents, the Birchwood Hurricanes…” he mumbled, clearly losing his enthusiasm with every word.
As the boys skated onto the ice, cheers could be heard from every direction. I saw Blake and I held up my sign that said, “#2 IS MINE. ;)” and he smiled. All the other girls already knew, but not the girls from the other school. He came over the glass, and lowered the window. He leaned over and kissed me.
It was our routine. We did this every home game, and at the away ones that had the power flexi-glass windows.
He noticed my jersey and smiled, “That’s my girl.”
“You know it, now go win for me,” I smiled as I kissed him one last time before watching him skate off to the rest of his team.
As I sat down, I entered the conversation that the girls had started.
“’Hey ya’ll?’ You come back, after only ever talking to Cade, and expect everything to just be okay?” Kalle stated, harshly, I might add. Even though it was all true.
“Look, I’m sorry. I had a lot to go through after my dad died. I know I only talked to Cade, and I’m sorry for that too. Everything here just reminded me of him, and I could barely even talk to her. I’m back because I know that I need to face everything that happened. And senior year of course,” she finished, fake smiling at the end of it.
I know that smile, her ‘I’m not okay, but I’m going to seem like I am,’ smile.
“Okay, but it still doesn’t explain with why you’re back…” Kalle trailed off.
“Oh yeah, my grandparents are paying for an apartment for me while I’m here. They thought it was a good idea. So I’m here for senior year, then off to college,” she said, her eyes drifting towards the ice in what seemed to be Blake’s direction.
