Chapter Five. (Blake’s POV)
I looked between my ex-girlfriend and my current girlfriend, not sure exactly what to say or do.
“Oh shit,” Caden muttered under her breath, basically saying what I was thinking.
“Cade? What’s going on?” Thea asked, looking slightly scared.
“Hey Taylor! How have you been?” she said, breaking the awkward pause.
“I’m okay. Why does he look so familiar?” ‘Taylor’ asked Caden.
“Okay, no need to play stupid. You know exactly who I am,” I snapped at her. She knew exactly who I was and what she had done to my family and I.
“Blake! You need to calm down,” Caden said, her voice growing slightly louder.
“I am calm but she doesn't need to act dumb.”
“She isn’t!” Caden exclaimed. “She got into a major car accident a few months ago. She showed up before I had the chance to tell you about it. She doesn’t remember anything. She was in the passenger seat when her dad’s car wrapped around the tree. On his side. She just got hit in the head. She got amnesia and didn’t know who anyone was for months,” she finished, looking flustered and like she was about to cry.
Who would have thought. I screwed up again.
She must have seen the look on my face because she came and wrapped her arms around my neck brought my face close to hers.
“You didn't know. I know that. It just gets me upset. I think it’s better this way, personally. She has no idea what she did. Hopefully, she won't have to. Ever,” she whispered to me so Taylor wouldn’t hear.
I know that she was probably right—no, she is right—but there’s some selfish part of me that wants to make her know what she did to me. How she ripped my heart out and did the mexican hat dance on it. But I know that Caden is right.
“Caden. Who is this? Why are you hugging him? What’s going on?” Taylor asked from behind her.
“This is my boyfriend, Blake. Blake, this is Taylor,” she ‘introduced’ us.
“We’ve met,” I couldn't help but say.
“Blake!” Caden scolded me.
“We have?” Taylor asked, clearly curious. “I don't remember if we did, but I wouldn’t anyways. If I hadn’t got into the car crash, I definitely would have remembered you.”
“Tay! That’s my boyfriend,” Caden spoke up.
“She knows, babe. She’s messing with you. Has anyone told you about your days back in Australia?” I asked her.
“A couple of people. Some old ‘friends’ tried to tell me that I dated this guy for a couple of years then slept with his brother all summer behind his back. I can’t see myself doing that... did I?” she asked me, a horrified look on her face.
“You might have. I might be the guy you dated for years. My brother might be the one you cheated on me with. I might have gone into a depression and completely ruined my relationship with my family because of it. Might have. Who knows though,” I said, some coming out harsher than I meant it to.
“Oh my god. I did. That was me. I did do all of that,” she looked at me. Then at Caden. “Did you know this?”
“Not until last night when his brother showed up when I was supposed to meet his parents.”
Taylor looked between Caden and I, not knowing what to do or how to react.
“Im so sorry. The new me, I guess you could say, would never do that. I would never do that. I guess I did, but I wouldn’t now. I really am sorry,” she told me, tears spilling down her cheeks.
“I would say ‘It’s okay,’ but it’s not. I can try to move on and forgive but I know I won’t forget,” I said. I knew I was only doing this for Caden. Taylor was her best friend and I wasn't going to ruin that, no matter how much it hurt me.
“I understand... On other topics, I heard there was a hockey game. Are either of you going?” she asked, not so subtly changing the topic.
“He’s playing, I’m just watching,” I heard from beside me.
“Ohh. What about afterwards?” she asked with a hopeful look on her face.
‘We have plans. It's our three month anniversary and I'm taking her to dinner after the game,” I said, giving Caden a look.
“Yeahh. Sorry. I would but we’ve had these plans for a couple weeks,” she replied.
“Well I’m gonna go unpack,” she told us.
“Meet me at the game at 7?” Caden asked hopefully.
I could tell that she missed her best friend and I wouldn’t get in the way of that.
“Of course,” Taylor smiled and was out the door in a matter of seconds.
“Well that was fun, but why can’t we really hang out after the game?” Caden asked curiously.
“Maybe I want some alone time with my girlfriend without having to worry about being interrupted by psychopath brothers and delusional mothers. It can be just you and me. Like old times before you met my whole dysfunctional family.”
“Reason enough. You should get ready for the game soon, yeah?” she looked at me.
“Probably, but I don't exactly want to just yet,” I told her, placing my hands on her hips and yanking her closer. “I want to do something first.”
I skimmed my lips over hers and then placed them gently on hers and ran my tongue over her bottom lip, trying to deepen the kiss while simultaneously lifting her onto the counter. Instead of granting me access like I expected she bit down on my bottom lip and dragged her teeth over it, then brought her tongue over it to soothe the pain. I couldn't help but moan at the sensations of both the pain and the pleasure. I disconnected our lips and placed my lips on strategic places on the sensitive skin of her neck, finally landing on soft skin beneath her ear and bit down slightly, effectively bringing her to moan my name. Then I stopped.
“I should get ready now...” I trailed off, ending with a smirk when I saw the lust in her eyes, her reddened cheeks, ruffled hair and panting chest.
“You will be the death of me,” she said as she jumped off the counter and adjusted her clothes to look as if she hadn’t just had a heated make out session.
She walked over to me, and was about to hug me when a look of realization came across her face.
"Did she say, unpack?" she looked at me hopefully.
"She might have. I don't know. I was more concerned about where I'm taking you to dinner after the game tonight."
"You remembered?" her eyes met mine with a look of uncertainty.
"Of course I did. How could I?" I said, hoping she wouldnt see through my lie and tell that it was merely coincidence. I didnt have much time to worry because she lept into my arms with a breathtaking smile.
Taylor's POV.
I stepped off the porch of Taylor's house and ran a hand through my hair.
Shit just got harder. How am I supposed to take away the man I love from my best friend, when she clearly loves him.
I can't. I won't. She's happy, and more importantly, he's happy.
Hey, I may have been psycho back in Australia, but now that I don't have my dad I know what I did was wrong. Or at least now that I know that it's my best friend who would get hurt and not some random...
I won't let it happen. I'm creating my own plan.
