After receiving a text from an old acquaintance, Jeremey walked onto the roof of the old abandoned warehouse. Where he and his best friend spent most of their childhood. He got to the top and pulled the door shut. Subtly announcing his presence.

"You do realize that door is locked, right?"

"Um Yeah, Sarah" he responded walking toward the figure sitting on the edge of the roof.

"Well Jeremy, I broke the key years before you left" Sarah retorted sarcastically.

"Oh I remember, we'll find a way down but first I have something that needs to be addressed."

"And what might that be, Jeremy?" she sighed, turning back to look toward the edge of the roof the dry desert wind blowing her hair in her face. "If I remember correctly you moved six years ago and 'lost contact' with me eight months ago."

"I know but that wasn't my choice, you think I wanted my grandma to get sick?"

"I... J I didn't know," she replied, allowing her face to show the apologies she failed to say.

"And I didn't tell you, but that's not why I'm here." Sarah turned to face him. The question was clearly written in her motion. Jeremy reached into his pocket pulling out his phone and handing it to Sarah. She looked down at what he was showing her and saw it was a screenshot of text messages from her roommate and friend; Ashley.

Text message: A; hey Jeremy this is Ashley

Ashley? Oh, Sarah's roommate, right? : J

A: yes this is actually about Sarah

Oh is she ok? : J

A: Um I don't know

What happened?: J

A: I can't find her, she hasn't been home in days. I tried telling the police but since she's answering texts and saying she just wants to be alone they won't look for her. I was hoping you would know somewhere she'd go? I'm really worried

I'm actually moving back to LA. I'm around our old neighborhood now, I'll drop by her usual spots but she probably drunk: J

A: Okay thank you

"So you came here because Ashley couldn't find me?" she laughed, " after eight years you came to find me, you couldn't text me or anything? Fuck you, Jeremy."

" I came here cause I knew where you were and what you were doing, Sarah I came to stop you." he stepped forward extending his hand pleading for her to step back.

"Why stop me?" she asked her voice breaking "you don't care J, you never did."

"I've always cared-" Jeremey started.

"No. how can you say that?" she interrupted, "how can anyone say that? Nobody cares. Yeah, people have fucking lives, J, but when no one, especially people who know that you're hurting. People who know that you need help but you can't pay for it. When no one can check in on you when no one answers your calls and texts how can any of them say they care?"

Stepping back away from him she felt her left foot miss the edge of the roof. She leaned forward hoping to regain her balance. Realizing it was too late to stop herself she embraced the fall, hoping she'd finally be happy.

Jeremey ran to the edge trying to catch Sarah but it was no use. He watched helplessly as she fell and right before she hit the pavement he saw a faint smile on his friend's face.
