Today was the day. He was finally able to pick up Zachary from the hospital. After weeks of waiting, debating, and working, they finally decided to let Zachary out of the hospital.
To Evan, he honestly just wanted to get it over with. He couldn't handle the wait. Evan never had much patience, a frequent problem many people enjoyed pointing out.
He couldn't handle the pressure of making sure the fox was comfortable.
"God... just let him be okay..."
The wolf walked into the hospital, greeted by Rose, the secretary there. She was a snow wolf, barely standing above 5ft. Evan and her had a game going, one where they would hide a small stuffed animal somewhere in the others belongings.
"So, Evan, where'd you hide Bullet this time?" Rose smirked, sitting on the edge of her swivel chair. Her red eyes peered into his soul, threatening to make Evan spill.
"Ah, that's something for only me to know. Cant spoil it already! I have a streak, it takes exactly 3 days for you to find him." Evan chuckled at his own antics.
"And how do I know you don't just put it on my desk on the third day?"
"You dont. That's the art of lying." Evan laughed, a feeling he was never quite used to.
Evan took the form Rose handed to Evan, and moved to sit down on one of the chairs.
Before he could start writing though, he sighed and let his smile go down, returning to his neutral state.
Because of the nature of his job, Evan always had to put on a face. He wanted to keep those kids happy, even at the cost of his own.
The stories they told him... they were too much. Not even a therapist would be able to the stories of abuse.
But now, he was able to help this fox. Maybe he'd do good for once, actually able to help someone.
Maybe those reports he'd write would actually be used for once.
All he was ever able to do was report. No action. They never took action.
Mostly, because the parents would bribe them.
The city Evan lived in was a rich one. Many people were in the upper class, and if you weren't, you were in upper middle. Though, there was one part that no one spoke of. Mostly, because the city was ashamed to admit of this part of the city.
Nothing like the poor class getting ignored because everyone is rich, huh?
Evan growled just thinking about it. He always hated those rich jackasses. They only looked out for themselves.
"Helloooo? Earth to Evan? Rose calling."
The voice rose Evan out of his thoughts. How long had he been standing there? He looked down, mostly in shame and embarrassment. Though slightly due to how close Rose was.
For someone so short, she really was able to get into peoples faces easily.
"You need to finish signing those forms if you want Zachary any time soon. Though, just warning you, don't get too attached. The hospital is only letting you do this because he has no one else willing to."
"I know Rose, I know. I just wanna make sure he gets back on his feet. He didn't look so well."
"Yea, no shit. Nothing like taking all the stitches out of your back to feel better."
Evan sighed, remembering how he found the poor fox. He didn't understand how someone could just... do that. Rip all of them out. It didn't seem right. Any normal person would have gone into shock just from pulling a couple out. But all of them? Jeez.
