CHAPTER 1
MELANIE'S POV:
When Noël woke up the next morning, Ed and I were in the kitchen cooking breakfast. It was Saturday morning so none of us had to be anywhere.
"You guys didn't finish the story." She whined, rubbing her eyes.
Ed and I laughed because we knew she was going to ask that. We knew that we would eventually have to finish the story. Noël, though, didn't take our laughing lightly.
"Mummy! Daddy! Please!" She pouted.
"Where did we leave off, Mel?" Ed asked me.
"When you tweeted mummy for the first time." She told us.
"Uh-huh." I nodded to myself. "Well then, mummy pleaded to daddy to talk to her and daddy gave her a chance." I said, lifting Noël up to one of the stools at our dining table.
"Then we met, fell in love, got married, and here we are." I finished quickly.
As Ed flipped a griddle pancake onto Noël's plate causing her to laugh, I heard a knock at our front door.
I jumped to get it, eager to see our visitor. I could hear arguing going on in the kitchen as I opened the door.
"Melanie!" a close friend of Ed's shouted.
"Harry!" I responded as he pulled me into a hug. "Where have you been?" I said jokingly.
He laughed as he set me down and came into the house.
Last time I saw him, he was going through what most people call a 'mid-life crisis', though he strongly claimed otherwise.
His hair had taken a turn to the wild side, all gnarly and messy. He had quite a few stubble hairs on his jawline.
He ran into the kitchen eager to see Ed, and he found a moping Noël and a angry Ed.
"Ed!" He shouted, pulling him forcefully into a hug. I saw a smile slip onto Ed's face as Harry embraced him after a long time apart.
"What are you doing here?" Ed asked gesturing to the dining room to sit down.
"I've been out and about and thought I'd sneak in a visit." He smiled. "Where's your darling daughter?"
Ed stated, "We've had a little disagreement..."
"Noël, c'mere!" Ed demanded a bit too aggressively.
She came slumping into the room. I had joined the two in the dining room, watching Noël come in.
"Noël! How old are you? 4?" Harry joked.
She laughed as she flung herself into his arms. "No, seriously!"
"I'm 7!" She giggled but once she caught the glance of her father, she went back to her sad state.
"What's gotten you down?" Harry asked her.
"Daddy and mummy won't tell me the story of how they met!" She crossed her arms in an act of anger.
"I could tell it to you if wanna hear the true story." Harry suggested to her.
I rolled my eyes and Ed and I looked at each other.
"Really?" She looked up at him.
"Yes, really." Harry nodded in confirmation. "It all started in at your dad's hotel room..."
