CarMy smile was tired as I accepted the food from the cashier, walking out of the vegan restaurant with a quickness.
It was one thing for me to go with her to ultrasounds and doctor's appointments, but these late-night cravings were a whole different ball game.
She claimed she had no one else to do it for her, but I knew it was just because she wanted me.
Sliding in my car, I glanced at the ultrasound pictures I'd placed on the dashboard the moment I closed the door.
You're doing this for them, not-
The thought never finished itself as I leaned my head back against the seat.
Don't lie to yourself.
Bey was still my friend at the end of the day, and even though I love Rei with everything I have; I couldn't just lie and say I didn't feel even a platonic attachment to Bey.
I wanted her to be okay more than anything, but I wasn't oblivious as to what that would look like for her.
She wanted me, and she didn't hide it from anyone. . . but that wasn't the right thing to do. I wouldn't cheat on Rei, but with all these late-night runs, I already knew my Sunshine had doubts in her head.
Today confirming it.
Which was why I tried to set boundaries with Bey, but my first love just didn't seem to respect them.
And at this point, I didn't know if it was the hormones or her heart taking over, but the singer seemed even more relentless.
"I'm screwed." Was the small sigh-like murmur that left me as I started the car. Suddenly the phone rang, my eyebrow lifting as the car announced the name of the caller. Rolling my eyes, I answered with a short, "I'm on my way."
"Can you bring some chocolate, ice cream, olives, and hot sauce?"
Disgust ran through my body at the thought of the combination, my mouth receding into a stale line as I nodded. "Yeah...be there in twenty. Tell the guard at the gate I'm in the black Maserati."
"I will! Thanks, Daddy!"
"Don't-"
She hung up before I could answer.
Asshole.
The roads were emptier than expected on this late clear night, no clouds in the sky to obscure the light the moon and stars shined on the city. The peace in the sky matched the calmness of the wind blowing into my car, the windows down as I cruised onto the freeway.
Some of the cars that drove past would slow next to me, multiple drivers yelling compliments directed to my Maserati at me.
I would just give them an amused thank you and keep on my drive, my mind not even remembering what they looked like seconds later.
Taking my exit, I exhaled a little rough as I stopped at a red light.
I hope she hasn't fallen asleep.
My eyes flickered down to the clock on the touchscreen, catching sight of a picture of Rei in the corner of the screen.
Another sigh.
And that she's still asleep.
The green light was the signal for me to go, pulling into a grocery store filled with cars.
