It was 0930 standard time and the Guardians were setting up. HiCom had decided they wanted a full view of the Vanguard Training Center that day. Konetics overlooked all the Guardians suiting up for their patrol. Antifunct, one of his close advisors, walked up behind him and spoke first, "Sir, the squad is almost done preparing and the HiCom are anxious to take off." Konetics turned to look at his Senate Advisor and replied, "Seems they are almost as anxious as I. The rebels were spotted patrolling with a full squad of 20 Templars from recent reports. This is a very dangerous idea and I don't like it." All the Guardians were now standing around with their suits on and helmets activated. The head of the squad, ProjectAuxite, spoke into the comms, "Warden, the Guardians are prepared and the HiCom are ready to board." Anti called the squad to attention and they formed up. He whispered to Kone, "This is going to be fine, the reports aren't recent," then smiled and led the patrol towards the High Commands barracks. Four Guardians were overseeing the barracks and multiple Vanguards were patrolling just outside. Aquailia stepped out of her quarters and was flanked by the two Guardians at her door. Kone welcomed her and soon a few more Guardians gathered around her. The Forerunner joined them later and was flanked by his own squad of Guardians soon after. The patrol headed to the hanger where their ship awaited. The pilot watched as the patrol strapped into their seats. All the Guardians were nervous as the engines started up and the ship took off. Kone looked at Anti and seemed worried. Anti spoke through private comms to Kone to reassure him. Looking out the window, Kone gazed at the lava fields and various rocky terrains the planet contained. This was not the planet he was born on, yet it had become his home.
It was around 1030 standard time, an hour later that they saw the site of the Training Center. The pilot gestured to those on board to buckle up for the landing, if they weren't already. As the ship landed, Vanguards flanked the landing site and stood guarding it. Guardians filed out of the ship and waited for the HiCom to exit. The two Council's had decided to not join as they seemed preoccupied working on training new Vanguards. Kone and Anti walked closely to lead the patrol toward the tour guide for the day. A few Vanguards who ran the facility's daily operations, Jan_ilia and Roders, who were Praetorians, welcomed the patrol towards them.
By the time the tour had begun, it was 1100 standard time. Anti was still trying to calm Kone's worried state about the recent report's. Kone was checking his gauntlet for updates on any new data about the Templars. So far, it was blank and this worried Kone. He sent for a small group of Guardians to scout the surrounding terrain. They could put his mind at ease, he thought.
Suddenly alarms went off in the Guardian comms and they pulled the HiCom into nearby cover. Someone was attacking the facility and it was no longer safe to continue the patrol. The guides had run off to start gathering the recruits and newer Vanguards who were panicking around the center. Anti was yelling orders through comms and soon the alarms went silent. All the Guardians were alert and the HiCom were tucked between them. Slowly Kone poked his head out to look around, the area nearby was clear from what he could see. All the Vanguards were in battle positions. He checked his gauntlet, there were newer reports popping up about the Templars reaching the facility and now the scouting group he had sent out was not responding.
Project led the patrol through the large hallways. They had to make it to the ship, the pilot should have started the engines already and be ready to go. Kone glanced around and heard laser fire. Those weren't the normal sounds for the training weapons in the facility.. he thought. Together with Anti, they pushed the patrol back to the hangar to find Templars had destroyed it and were gathered around the rubble. Guardians gathered in the front and began firing at the hostiles. Vanguards were streaming from behind the group and starting joining the fight. With a soft thud Kone heard bodies falling to the ground, they were losing the battle. Kone saw that they were outnumbered and he called the Guardians to attack with their swords. Templars would be no match to the trained skill of Guardians. Wacky and Aqua had been pushed into a side room with a few Guardians. The rest charged up to meet their enemies, silent and deadly.
Kone lost track of time, swinging his blade he was heavily sweating. The Templars were falling back and he could tell the battle was turning. Through the comms, he called for the Guardians for one final push against the invaders. What seemed like a long time later, the Templars were finally gone and fully retreating. Anti had called for medics and Kone surveyed the hangar. It was in ruins, the ships had been covered in blast marks. Many damaged severely, he didn't see a way for them to get the HiCom away any time soon. Checking his gauntlet, it was around 1534 standard time.
The patrol gathered and Kone let Anti brief the HiCom on what had happened. Luckily no one was severely injured in the patrol, but many Vanguards had fallen and more were injured. Kone had been worried this might happen and should have advised against this tour. He felt as if he had failed his job as the Warden of the Guardians. Anti put his hand on Kone's shoulder reassuringly, as if reading his mind. "It'll be alright Kone, you did your best and the HiCom are safe. No one is severely injured, and the Guardians will live another day," Anti whispered through their private comms. "But the scouting group is missing, and so many Vanguards were lost today Anti. How can I forgive myself?" Had been Kone's reply, he felt his failure was directly responsible for so much pain. "It isn't your fault the Templar's attacked, just focus on the now, not what could have happened." With that Anti turned to gather the Guardians back into formation and see about transport back to the main facility for the Vanguards.
By the time the patrol had returned and delivered the HiCom safely to their barracks, it was around 1748. All the Guardians had retired to their barracks and a fresh group was on guard for the evening. Kone was in his office, completing the official daily report. Anti knocked and walked in, smiling at Kone. "You know today could've been a lot worse, but we all survived thanks to you," he said walking up to the desk. "I know but I still feel bad about how many had to suffer and the losses we took today on the main Division." Kone still was a bit worried about another attack and had sent out another scouting group to find the first and report on the Training Center's status. Anti looked at Kone before turning to the door and walking to his own barracks with the rest of the Senate. Kone sighed, finished up his report and then retired to his personal barracks. Today had been a stressful one and he couldn't wait to sleep but knew it would be a while before he would sleep. Well, thought Kone, I guess this is the end for now and ended his mental log.
